It was reported in The Business Times on 23 November 21, that Olam International could replace Comfort Delgro in the Straits Times Index in December 2021. Olam's market capitalisation currently stands at SGD6. 38 Billion versus Comfort Delgro at SGD3. 29 Billion. The other good news is that Olam's share price has been going up like a rocket recently too. It last closed yesterday at SGD1. 82 compared to SGD1. 74 on 23 November 21 when it was announced in the Business Times. Olam is also planning to list its food ingredients business Olam Food Ingredients on the premium segment of the London Stock Exchange in the first half of 2022, a move which would raise capital and unlock the value of the business. At the same time, there will be a concurrent listing on the Singapore Exchange. There is also talk that Olam Food Ingredients is to be demerged from Olam Group. This is also scheduled to happen in 1st Half of 2022! With all these exciting developments, let take a look at Olam's H1 2021 financial results. Revenue increased by 33.7% year on year to SGD22. 8 Billion. EBIT jumped 51.4% year on year to SGD 641.6 million. PATMI increased by 26.7% to SGD421. 5 million. According to Olam Co Founder and Group CEO, Sunny Verghese, Olam's operational earnings have been the strongest since inception to reflect the underlying strength and resilience of Olam business despite the impact of Covid19. The other strong point of Olam Group is that Temasek Holdings own 53% of the Group! With the current increase of Food and Commodities prices worldwide, Olam is a company that is resistant to inflationary pressures. I am so happy that I held onto Olam even when the stock price dived earlier on because I believe that it is a great company with strong solid fundamentals and a great management team.
