The big question is what will happen to the AMD stock price after the Xilinx close. AMD has historically competed with Intel and Nvidia, both of which have created the markets in which AMD now makes all its money. Addition of Xilinx appears to be along the same vane. However, the largest market for AMD products is now cloud computing, and a variety of other players appear to be entering the space using ARM IP, thus increasing competition with AMD. It would probably be better for AMD if Nvidia purchased ARM, since AMD competitors would then be less inclined to use ARM IP.
