However, it has since come back under pressure.\nAfter consolidating in a wide range for almost a year, AMD stock ripped higher by more than 34% in just six trading sessions. That came on a high-volume burst, which led the stock to all-time highs.\nStill down 15% from this highs though and this stock has many bulls rethinking their long position. Not to worry though. LikeNvidia(NASDAQ:NVDA), AMD continues to enjoy long-term secular growth, while at the same time,eating intoIntel’s(NASDAQ:INTC) market share.\nBreaking Down Advanced Micro Devices\nWhy do I like AMD stock? Well, it’s pretty simple: The growth.\nThe company sports trailing 12-month revenue growth of roughly 75%. For the current year, consensus expectations call for almost 60% growth. However, the issue of 2022 and beyond then crops up.Forecasts call for 17.5% revenue growth in 2022 and 13% growth in 2023.\nFirst, that’s several years of double-digit revenue growth and 17.5% is certainly nothing to balk at. That said, after growing revenue by 45% in 2020 and with forecasts calling for 60% growth this year, 17.5% is going to feel like a real slow down.\nOr at least the market could interpret it like that.\nMy issue is that analysts have beenwoefully conservative with AMD.The same is true for Nvidia. Listen up, because this part is important.\nDespite knowing how much momentum AMD was riding as it entered 2021 — undeterred by the novel coronavirus pandemic — analysts expected less than $10 billion in revenue for this year. That figure is now at almost $16 billion!\nAt the start of this year, analysts expectednext year’srevenue to be around $12 billion. That figure is already north of $18 billion. In a span of just a few quarters, these estimates have exploded higher.The same thing happened for fiscal 2020 before it was in the books.\nSo my argument is, why bet against a winning entity? AMD clearly has the formula for growth, even if the estimates can’t keep up.\nAMD Does More Than That\nIt’s not just revenue growth that has me excited here. CEO Lisa Su has done so much to turn this company around over the years.\nRevenue in 2017 stood at $5.3 billion, while the trailing 12 months boasts sales of $13.3 billion. That’s up 150%, which is great. But operating income in the same periods stand at $204 million and $2.5billion, respectively, a more than 10-fold increase.\nNet income exploded from $43 million in 2017 to $3.43 billion. The increases have resulted in booming free cash flow and margin. It’s also allowed the company to pay down debt, which has gone from $1.4 billion at year-end 2017 to just over $500 million at year-end 2020.\nIt also put AMD in position to acquireXilinx(NASDAQ:XLNX) for $36 billion in an all-stock deal.\nThat will have an impact on AMD stock in the intermediate term, but it should only help bolster AMD’s financials in the future. Speaking of the stock price, let’s look at the chart.\nTrading AMD Stock\nA look at the chart shows the explosive rally the stock underwent in late July and early August. Just for a minute, forget all the revenue growth and positive developments in the company’s financials. Instead, just look at the volume on that spike.\nAMD stock exploded higher in six straight sessions with incredible volume. To me, that says “accumulation” by the big institutions.\nThe stock then gave use a pretty orderly “ABC” correction back down to the 50-day moving average and the former all-time high at $99.23. Now pressing higher, the bulls are regaining control.\nI want to see that the stock can clear the 21-day moving average downtrend resistance, but as long as it stays above $99.23, it looks OK on the long side. The Nasdaq Composite&nbsp;declined 0.9%. All three finished near their lows of the day.</p>\n<p>Fed governors have been dropping hints in recent weeks that the beginning of the end of the central bank’s bond buying was nearing, and the minutes confirmed that&nbsp;taperingis at hand. “Most participants noted that …it could be appropriate to start reducing the pace of asset purchases this year,” the minutes read.</p>\n<p>The assessment comes as&nbsp;the economy has recovered quickly, and reflects that the Fed is now focused on when—and how quickly—to remove support from the economy.</p>\n<p>The selloff was broad. About 83% of S&amp;P 500 stocks fell on the day, according to FactSet. This dynamics often reflects concern about how the market will perform without the Fed there to support it.</p>\n<p>Now, it’s just a question of when tapering will begin. It’ “is going to be September or December,” said Dave Wagner, portfolio manager and analyst at Aptus Capital Advisors. “Everyone is focusing on Jackson Hole in my opinion,” he continued, referring to the conclave of central bankers that occurs later this month in Jackson Hole, Wyo.</p>\n<p>Strangely, the bond market didn’t react all that much, with the 10-year Treasury yield closing at 1.27%, where it hovered for most of the day. The 2-year yield, which often moves higher when market participants see the Fed hiking short-term interest rates sooner, ended at 0.21%, lower than the 0.22% it hit in the morning.</p>\n<p>“I don’t think we’ve learned anything new,” said Tom Graff, head of fixed income at Brown Advisory. Graff added that the consensus for a short-term interest rate hikes in 2022 or 2023 hasn’t changed.</p>\n<p>A weak market, however, couldn’t keep some stocks down. About 83% of S&P 500 stocks fell on the day, according to FactSet. This dynamics often reflects concern about how the market will perform without the Fed there to support it.\nNow, it’s just a question of when tapering will begin. It’ “is going to be September or December,” said Dave Wagner, portfolio manager and analyst at Aptus Capital Advisors. “Everyone is focusing on Jackson Hole in my opinion,” he continued, referring to the conclave of central bankers that occurs later this month in Jackson Hole, Wyo.\nStrangely, the bond market didn’t react all that much, with the 10-year Treasury yield closing at 1.27%, where it hovered for most of the day.
