In a CNBC interview, the Tesla bull billionaire investor said that the company’s future is in their Robotaxis and their promised affordable electric car.  On Tuesday, the company announced new models by 2025, including low-cost cars. Earlier this month, Tesla (TSLA) backed down from announcing a $25,000 Model 2 car. But Baron believes that within 10 to 15 years, all cars are going to be electric. The hybrid car trend, he added, “is sort of holding off action so the automobile companies don’t have to lose money on the electric cars,” and said those are too expensive and not effective enough.  Also, he said that the reason why the stock is down (-33.65% year-to-date) is that people were concerned that Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk would abandon the idea of having a low-cost car, but he is not. Tesla has the capacity to make 3 million low-cost cars a year, he said. In addition, Baron said SpaceX is going to make 20 times its gains over the next 15 years and four times over the next six or seven years. “Can it be too big? Sure,” he said. “But I do think that we're going to get a lot more money to manage. Therefore, it's going to get diluted down by the new money coming in. I’m always thinking about how large a position should be.” Baron Capital is managing about $3.5B in Tesla (TSLA) shares, he said. In a CNBC interview, the Tesla bull billionaire investor said that the company’s future is in their Robotaxis and their promised affordable electric car.  On Tuesday, the company announced new models by 2025, including low-cost cars. Earlier this month, Tesla (TSLA) backed down from announcing a $25,000 Model 2 car. But Baron believes that within 10 to 15 years, all cars are going to be electric. The hybrid car trend, he added, “is sort of holding off action so the automobile companies don’t have to lose money on the electric cars,” and said those are too expensive and not effective enough.  Also, he said that the reason why the stock is down (-33.65% year-to-date) is that people were concerned that Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk would abandon the idea of having a low-cost car, but he is not. Tesla has the capacity to make 3 million low-cost cars a year, he said. In addition, Baron said SpaceX is going to make 20 times its gains over the next 15 years and four times over the next six or seven years. “Can it be too big? Sure,” he said. “But I do think that we're going to get a lot more money to manage. Therefore, it's going to get diluted down by the new money coming in. I’m always thinking about how large a position should be.” Baron Capital is managing about $3.5B in Tesla (TSLA) shares, he said.
