Shares of Amazon closed at $3,372.41 on Friday and are up 5.83% so far this year.\n\n'It’ll be expensive for us in the short term': Amazon\nAmazon posted third-quarter results and guidance that left Wall Street balking as the e-commerce giant forecasted billions of dollars in additional costs heading into the holiday shopping season.\n\"In the fourth quarter, we expect to incur several billion dollars of additional costs in our Consumer business as we manage through labor supply shortages, increased wage costs, global supply chain issues, and increased freight and shipping costs — all while doing whatever it takes to minimize the impact on customers and selling partners this holiday season,\" Amazon CEO Andy Jassy said in the company's earnings release. \"It’ll be expensive for us in the short term, but it’s the right prioritization for our customers and partners.\"\nChukumba's view is that Jassy's decision was the right one, given the intense supply chain issues and labor shortages that the country is experiencing amid the economic recovery. Many employers have proactively raised wages to attract more talent on top of offering perks like paying for their workers' education.\nAn employee pulls a cart at Amazon's JFK8 distribution center in Staten Island, New York, U.S. November 25, 2020. (REUTERS/Brendan McDermid.)\nSupply chainissues continue to drag on as well.\n\"We expect... strained supply chains to last until the early parts of 2023,\" Peter Sand, chief shipping analyst at Copenhagen-based BIMCO, a shipping trade group, toldYahoo Finance in a previous interview. \"We are basically seeing a global all-but-breakdown of the supply chains from end to end.\"\nThe losses reported by Amazon on Friday were an acknowledgment by Amazon that \"we have to pay our employees more. We have to give them the sign-on bonuses,\" Chukumba said. \"We're seeing this sort of inefficiency in our supply chain and we're going to eat it. We're not going to pass that along to our customers. We're not going to pass that along to our... sellers. We're going to going to eat that.\"\nAnd ahead of the holiday season, choosing to stomach higher costs rather than raise prices is \"quite frankly... the right decision,\" he added.\nAndy Jassy, CEO Amazon Web Services, speaks at the WSJD Live conference in Laguna Beach, California, U.S., October 25, 2016. REUTERS/Mike BlakeAmazon could raise Primecost, prices in longer term\nLonger-term, there are many options the company could take to recover many of these losses.\n\"It's been over three years since they increased the price of Amazon Prime, it's now $118 a [year]. I really think that they could increase that,\" Chukumba explained. \"I don't think the vast majority of Prime subscribers would blink at that.\"\nAnother one of Amazon's options would be to \"increase their rates that they charge the third-party sellers and they could even increase prices on first party,\" Chukumba said. \"And by the way, we're hearing from a lot of companies that, you know, consumers are not blinking at price increases.\"","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"AMZN":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":2327,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":849333476,"gmtCreate":1635728651169,"gmtModify":1635728651322,"author":{"id":"4088899824391120","authorId":"4088899824391120","name":"vaNzZz","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/08b17230db77377d1685c3aa91473639","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4088899824391120","authorIdStr":"4088899824391120"},"themes":[],"title":"","htmlText":"$GLOBALFOUNDRIES Inc.(GFS)$keep going up and stabalise. First, the company has proven that it can execute very well prior to, during, and after the thick of the pandemic. When some tech companies failed to deliver great results without the stay-at-home tailwinds (think Amazon in Q2), Apple has managed to wow investors each quarter.

COVID-19 dominated the conversation during most of 2020. Global economies recovering from the pandemic has now become a major concern for investors in 2021. Nearly agnostic to it all is Apple, which helps to justify lower stock price volatility in the recent past.

在2020年的大部分时间里,新冠肺炎主导了对话。全球经济从疫情中复苏现已成为投资者2021年的主要担忧。苹果对这一切几乎一无所知,这有助于证明近期股价波动性较低的合理性。

The other plausible justification is a bit less clear, if not more controversial or contrarian. The Apple Maven has argued that treasury yields (i.e. longer-term interest rates) have climbed a bit too much, too fast. As the market ponders whether the risk of hawkish monetary policy may have already been priced into assets, it is possible that Apple stock has benefited through reduced volatility in the past weeks.

","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Apple Stock: Can't Buy the Dip? We present another reason why this could be the case – think lower risks, rather than higher potential returns.\nApple stock continues to climb towards all-time highs, levels not seen since around six weeks ago. Even though the opportunity to buy the dip has all but vanished at this point, as the drawdown narrows to less than 5%, the Apple Maven still thinks that now is a good time to own AAPL shares.\nToday, we present one more reason that justifies owning the Cupertino company’s stock now. Rather than higher potential returns, we look at the bullish case from the perspective of lower risks.\nFigure 1: Apple Park in Cupertino, CA.\nVolatility drops\nWhen it comes to investing, the Apple Maven sees the two sides of the coin: risk and return. Much attention tends to be directed at the latter: will gains be rich going forward? Arguably not enough time is spent discussing the risk that needs to be assumed to capture the higher expected returns.\nOne common measure of risk is volatility: in other words, how much the stock price tends to swing from period to period (say, day to day), measured statistically by one standard deviation. The lower the number, the better. AAPL’s volatility over the past decade has averaged a bit more than 28%, which is consistent with the company’s profile as a higher-growth, mega-cap tech name.\nThroughout most of 2020, Apple stock’s rolling one-month volatility stayed above this long-term average – and even reached peaks of more than 100% during the thick of the COVID-19 crisis! But lately, jittery market action has given way to steadier, more predictable price movements. See chart below.\nFigure 2: AAPL volatility of daily returns.\nAnother way to think of risk is to consider the worst day of performance over a given period. Considering a rolling one-month window, Apple stock has produced steepest daily losses of -3.2% over the past ten years, on average. But in the past month, that figure dropped to -2.5%.\nThe chart below shows that the worst daily declines in Apple shares (again, on a rolling one-month basis) have been moderating lately. In fact, since late Q3 of last year, the figure has declined consistently from -8% in September 2020 to just short of -4% in the summer of 2021 to better than -3% now.\nFigure 3: AAPL worst day, rolling 1-month.\nWhy less risky?\nThere are several possible reasons why investing in AAPL has become less risky lately. First, the company has proven that it can execute very well prior to, during, and after the thick of the pandemic. When some tech companies failed to deliver great results without the stay-at-home tailwinds (think Amazon in Q2), Apple has managed to wow investors each quarter.\nCOVID-19 dominated the conversation during most of 2020. Global economies recovering from the pandemic has now become a major concern for investors in 2021. Nearly agnostic to it all is Apple, which helps to justify lower stock price volatility in the recent past.\nThe other plausible justification is a bit less clear, if not more controversial or contrarian. The Apple Maven has argued that treasury yields (i.e. longer-term interest rates) have climbed a bit too much, too fast. As the market ponders whether the risk of hawkish monetary policy may have already been priced into assets, it is possible that Apple stock has benefited through reduced volatility in the past weeks.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"AAPL":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":3064,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":859895210,"gmtCreate":1634685720692,"gmtModify":1634685721089,"author":{"id":"4088899824391120","authorId":"4088899824391120","name":"vaNzZz","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/08b17230db77377d1685c3aa91473639","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4088899824391120","authorIdStr":"4088899824391120"},"themes":[],"title":"","htmlText":"$Microsoft(MSFT)$good morning ","listText":"$Microsoft(MSFT)$good morning ","text":"$Microsoft(MSFT)$good morning","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/15b3987e3b831f27beefa79a0c5967f4","width":"1080","height":"3327"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":2,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/859895210","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":982,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":850635114,"gmtCreate":1634594365548,"gmtModify":1634594400419,"author":{"id":"4088899824391120","authorId":"4088899824391120","name":"vaNzZz","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/08b17230db77377d1685c3aa91473639","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4088899824391120","authorIdStr":"4088899824391120"},"themes":[],"title":"","htmlText":"$Tiger Brokers(TIGR)$is undervalued. The rebounding economy allowed them to release more cash they had set aside for pandemic losses, while sizzling deals, equity financing and trading added to profits. The S&P bank index jumped 1.5%.\nAlso, UnitedHealth Group Inc climbed 4.2% after the health insurer reported results and raised its full-year adjusted profit forecast on strength from its Optum unit that manages drug benefits.\nAdding to optimism, data showed the number of Americans filing new claims for unemployment benefits last week fell close to a 19-month low, and a separate report showed producer prices eased in September.\nData from recent inflation reports suggested COVID-driven price increases may have peaked. Still, Federal Reserve policymakers remain divided over inflation and what to do about it.\n“Some of the things that worried the market in September, and even last week, as far as the inflation aspect and higher interest rates and the Delta variant, maybe have lessened,” said Alan Lancz, president, Alan B. Elsewhere, economic data on consumer confidence is also due for release.\nThe Senate is expected to vote Monday on a procedural motion over the legislation passed by the House of Representatives last week. That bill included a plan to temporarily fund the government through early December, and came alongside a measure to raise the government debt ceiling through December 2022.\nThe latter point has been an area of contention for Senate Republicans, who are only narrowly outnumbered by Democratic lawmakers in both chambers and who have threatened to block the bill in its current form.\nSenate Republicans including Minority Leader Mitch McConnell have suggested that Democratic lawmakers should use the budget reconciliation process to raise the debt ceiling without Republican support. McConnell has, however, supported a short-term government funding bill that excludes a debt ceiling suspension.\n\"If they [the Democrats] want to tax, borrow and spend historic sums of money without our input, they’ll have to raise the debt limit without our help. This is the reality,” McConnell said on the Senate floor last week.\nDemocratic lawmakers, for their part, have called for the move to raise the debt limit be bipartisan to prevent the government from defaulting on its obligations. The Treasury Department has warned that the U.S. could default on its debts as soon as October in absence of congressional action.\n\"The U.S. has always paid its bills on time, but the overwhelming consensus among economists and Treasury officials of both parties is that failing to raise the debt limit would produce widespread economic catastrophe,\" Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen wrote in an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal last week.\nFederal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell also warned of the consequences of a failure to raise the debt ceiling during his post-FOMC meeting press conference last week.\n\"It's just very important that the debt ceiling be raised in a timely fashion so that the United States can pay its bills when and as they come due. That's a critically important thing,\" he said. \"The failure to do that is something that could result in severe reactions, severe damage to the economy and to the financial markets ... no one should assume that the Fed or anyone else can protect the markets or the economy in the event of a failure.\"\nA dead Elm tree is removed on the West Front of the Capitol in Washington, Friday, Sept. 10, 2021. (AP Photo/J. Scott Applewhite)ASSOCIATED PRESS\nAmid the standoff, the Office of Management and Budget began warning federal agencies last week to prepare for a potential government shutdown. The reminder served as a standard warning one week out from Congress's deadline to reach an agreement to at least temporarily continue funding the government.\nThough leaders of both political parties have agreed that a continuing resolution to avoid the shutdown at the end of the month is needed, the ongoing tension over raising the debt limit has served as a potential roadblock in this effort.\n\"We still expect Congress to avert a partial government shutdown at the start of October. Republicans won’t vote for the current continuing resolution being touted by the Democratic leadership, which also includes a new debt ceiling suspension,\" wrote Paul Ashworth, chief North America economist for Capital Economics, in a note Friday. \"But we expect a Plan B to emerge next week with the latter stripped out, which Republicans will support.\"\n\"The bigger issue is that there doesn’t appear to be an easy path to raising the debt ceiling by mid-October, which is when estimates suggest the Treasury’s will exhaust the 'extraordinary measures it is currently using to keep the lights on,\" he added.\nInvestors have also grown jittery as the debates wore on, with stocks posting their worst day since May last week amid a confluence of concerns that also included debt concerns with China Evergrande.\nMany strategists, however, have suggested market participants need not be overly concerned about the impacts of a potential government shutdown.\n\"Historically, we've seen that government shutdowns tend to be short-lived,\" Jordan Jackson, JPMorgan Asset Management global market strategist, told Yahoo Finance Live on Friday. \"We also know that for those non-essential federal employees, they do get furlough pay as well.\"\n\"If it lasts more than 30 days, it's certainly going to have a bigger impact on the economy. But generally speaking, these shutdowns tend to be short-lived and markets — while they may correct in the short-term — they do sort of continue to grind higher,\" he added. \"I think it's certainly a risk in terms of a short-term mini correction there. But again, with all the liquidity out there, I think any sort of blip in the markets will be short-lived.\"\nHistorical equity performance during and immediately following a government shutdown has also tended to point to a muted market impact.\n\"In the 14 government shutdowns since 1980, the S&P 500 generated median returns of -0.1% on the dates of budget authority expiration, 0.1% during the shutdown periods, and 0.3% on the dates of resolution,\" David Kostin, Goldman Sachs chief equity strategist, wrote in a note published on Sept. 21.\n\"One notable exception was the most recent federal shutdown in December 2018, when the S&P 500 fell 2% on the spending authority expiration date,\" he added. \"However, this decline was likely driven primarily by investor concerns about Fed tightening.\"\nKostin also noted that the typical government shutdown since 1980 has only lasted three days before ultimately being resolved. More recent shutdowns have lasted several times longer, however, with the duration of the four most recent federal shutdowns averaging 18 days, Kostin said.\nConsumer confidence\nOn the economic data front, one of the most closely watched new pieces of data will be on consumer confidence.\nThe Conference Board is set to release its September consumer confidence index Tuesday morning. Economists expect the index to tick up only slightly compared to August, with consumers' views on the coronavirus and rising prices stabilizing near the lowest level since February.\nSpecifically, consensus economists are looking for the index to rise to 115.0 in September after dropping to 113.8 in August. During the last monthly report, consumers' assessments of current business and labor market conditions both eased, and expectations for the next six months out also deteriorated.\n\"Consumer confidence fell to a six-month low in August, due to concerns around the Delta variant and inflation,\" wrote Bank of America economist Michelle Meyer in a note on Friday. \"We think these concerns largely remained in September.\"\nAt the time, Lynn Franco, senior director of economic indicators at the Conference Board, said it was still \"too soon to conclude\" whether decline in consumer confidence would \"result in consumers significantly curtailing their spending in the months ahead.\"\nThe latest spending data has also been equivocal. The Commerce Department's latest report showed retail sales rose 0.7% in August after declining in July. However, the categories posting the biggest declines were areas like e-commerce shops and grocery stores, suggesting consumer behavior was shifting back toward stay-in-place trends and away from in-person events like restaurant dining amid the latest wave of the coronavirus.\nEconomic calendar\n\nMonday: Durable goods orders, August preliminary (0.6% expected, -0.1% in July);
