Does that make sense?

Monday, Bernstein analyst Toni Sacconaghi asked that question. He’s a Tesla (ticker: TSLA) bear—rating shares Sell with a $300 price target—mainly because he believes the stock is pricey. Still, EVs can be worth half of the industry if investors buy into three ideas.

Today, 16 EV makers—including Tesla and yet-to-be public Rivian—are worth a combined $1.14 trillion. Tesla accounts for 74% of total EV value. Four of the top 10 most valuable auto makers are EV companies including: Tesla, Rivian,BYD (1211.Hong Kong), and NIO (NIO).

As for the makers of conventional vehicles, more than 50 auto makers are worth a combined $1.42 trillion. The most valuable traditional car companies are:Toyota Motor (TM),Volkswagen (VOW3.Germany),Daimler (DAI.Germany), and General Motors (GM).

Sales by the traditional companies still dominates unit volume, selling about 99% of the cars globally—97% of those are gasoline-powered, and 2% are EV. The EV pure-plays sell the remaining 1% worldwide.

“The thinking, of course, is that pure-play EV vendors will ultimately come to dominate the automotive world,” wrote Sacconaghi in a Monday report.

“萨科纳吉在周一的一份报告中写道:”当然,我们的想法是,纯电动汽车供应商最终将主导汽车世界。

That’s the first thing investors need to believe to justify EV valuations. Sacconaghi points out that 2014 pure-play EV companies accounted for 14% of electric-car sales. That’s 28% today. Pure-play EV companies’ market share is growing.

That’s the second belief required to stay bullish on EV makers’ stocks—that market share will continue to improve. “We suspect the market believes …that traditional OEMs will not be able to deliver competitive EV offerings in the future,” adds the analyst in his report. OEM is short for original equipment manufacturer, industry jargon for auto maker.

The final thing investors need to believe is that EVs will be more profitable, per car, than conventional vehicles. EV companies tend to sell direct—which can help profitability. EV makers are also the leaders in selling add-on subscription based services. Tesla’s Full Self-Driving Capability, or FSD, is probably the best example. Tesla sells the higher levels of its autonomous-driving software as a monthly subscription or for $10,000.

The mix of volume and profit growth driven by superior products could justify valuations, but Sacconaghi isn’t a believer. “Our contention is that the automotive industry is an increasingly global and hypercompetitive industry and we believe that surplus profits and technology innovation will likely be competed away over time.”

His views of the industry is one of the reasons he calls Tesla valuation “too rich.”

Time will tell who is right. The day's corporate results kicked off third-quarter earnings for S&P 500 companies.\n\"My hope is that as we work our way through earnings season, that the forward-looking guidance will be good enough that we'll close the year higher. But right now the market is in a show-me phase,\" said Jim Awad, senior managing director at Clearstead Advisors LLC in New York.\nMega-caps growth names including Amazon.com Inc, Google-parent Alphabet and Microsoft Corp all rose.\nThe Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.53 points to 34,377.81, the S&P 500 gained 13.15 points, or 0.30%, to 4,363.8 and the Nasdaq Composite added 105.71 points, or 0.73%, to 14,571.64.\nBlackRock Inc gained 3.8% after the world's largest money manager beat quarterly profit estimates as an improving economy helped boost its assets under management, driving up fee income.\nAlso in earnings, Delta Air Lines fell 5.8% after the company reported its first quarterly profit without federal aid since the coronavirus pandemic, but warned of a pre-tax loss for the fourth quarter due to a sharp rise in fuel prices.\nAnalysts expect corporate America to report strong profit growth in the third quarter but investor worries have been mounting over how supply chain problems, labour shortages and higher energy prices might affect businesses emerging from the pandemic.\nBank of America, Citigroup, Wells Fargo and Morgan Stanley will report results on Thursday, while Goldman Sachs is due to report on Friday.\nAmong other movers, Apple Inc dipped 0.4% after a report said the iPhone marker was planning to cut production of its iPhone 13.0 trading days.\nAdvancing issues outnumbered declining ones on the NYSE by a 1.73-to-1 ratio; on Nasdaq, a 1.39-to-1 ratio favored advancers.\nThe S&P 500 posted 8 new 52-week highs and 9 new lows; the Nasdaq Composite recorded 47 new highs and 56 new lows.\nVolume on U.S. exchanges was 9.31 billion shares, compared with the 10.8 billion average for the full session over the last 20 trading days.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"161125":0.9,"513500":0.9,"NQmain":0.9,"SSO":0.9,".SPX":0.9,"SH":0.9,"OEX":0.9,"OEF":0.9,"IVV":0.9,"ESmain":0.9,"SPXU":0.9,"SDS":0.9,"JPM":0.9,"SPY":0.9,"UPRO":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1483,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":822945702,"gmtCreate":1634087642807,"gmtModify":1634088049584,"author":{"id":"3581549237814895","authorId":"3581549237814895","name":"Theme","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8d589f20e0a3a44c380a2aacfda4272b","crmLevel":12,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3581549237814895","authorIdStr":"3581549237814895"},"themes":[],"title":"","htmlText":"$Cloudflare, Inc.(NET)$Has been steady. Should investors buy the dip or wait for a deeper decline? Let's look at the chart.\nNvidia is not just one of the top tech stocks to buy; it has been one of the best stocks overall.\nIt boasts robust long-term performance and has outpaced many of its peers this year, big and small.\nNvidia’s 57% year-to-date gains trounce Advanced Micro Devices, which is up 11.75% this year and 25% over the past 12 months.\nIt tops the FAANG group, although Alphabet is close, up 56% so far this year. The next-best performer in the group is up 22%.\nIn my view, Nvidia remains one of the best large-cap growth stocks available to investors. It also remains a top pick among analysts.\nThat’s even as it faces regulatory issues with its acquisition of Arm. It’s also as the shares are down about 15% from the highs. Let’s look at the chart.\nTrading Nvidia Stock\nDaily chart of Nvidia stock.\nNotice, on the first half of this chart, just how much consolidating Nvidia stock was doing. Despite its great earnings, impressive conferences, raised guidance and a stock split, Wall Street simply wasn’t willing to reward the stock.\nGranted, it had rallied hard off the Covid lows, but the lack of a lasting reward in the form of well-deserved rally was deflating for the bulls.\nThat changed in late May, when Nvidia reported better-than-expected results— again.\nIt ignited a move from sub-$140 to the $208 to $210 area. This zone became important, as it was a major breakout level in August.\nThat breakout helped propel the move to $230, which became resistance, while the $208 to $210 zone was initially support on the recent dip. However, that level failed as support last week.\nOn the upside, bulls need to see Nvidia stock reclaim the $208 to $210 area, as well as the 10-day and 50-day moving averages. That puts the 21-day moving average in play, followed by $220, then resistance at $230.\nOn the downside, bulls don’t want to see Nvidia stock lose the 21-week moving average. Below it puts this week’s low in play at $195.55.\nShould Nvidia close below that level, it opens the door to the weekly VWAP measure near $184, followed by the $178 to $180 zone.\nI love this company, but it’s not an easy trade from here.\nFailure to reclaim some of these key levels should have investors looking to buy the dip — which is a potentially larger dip should this week’s low fail to hold.\nOtherwise, the shares can run if they close back over the 50-day moving average.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"NVDA":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1512,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0}],"hots":[{"id":162085345,"gmtCreate":1624027691087,"gmtModify":1631884142095,"author":{"id":"3581549237814895","authorId":"3581549237814895","name":"Theme","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8d589f20e0a3a44c380a2aacfda4272b","crmLevel":12,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3581549237814895","idStr":"3581549237814895"},"themes":[],"title":"","htmlText":"Just write for the sake of writing.
