That single stock has to check off a lot of boxes, the most important of which are balancing reliability, longevity, and above-average growth. That's a pretty tall order these days.</p>\n<p>There are a few companies out there of this ilk though, and my favorite all-weather name among them is<b> Microsoft</b> (NASDAQ:MSFT).</p>\n<p>Surprised? I get it. The company is seemingly dependent on just one highly competitive and often-cyclical technology business -- software, and its Windows operating systems in particular. The stock's also uncomfortably expensive right now, valued at more than 33 times this year's projected profits and more than 29 times next year's earnings estimates.. With a closer look though, you'll find that Microsoft is so much more than just Windows, and that this stock easily justifies its premium price.</p>\n<h3>Several ways to make money, and they all work</h3>\n<p>Its roots may have been in software sales. But, don't think for a minute this company hasn't evolved into an organization relevant to all of today's most important markets.</p>\n<p>The graphic below tells the tale, depicting recently ended fiscal 2021's results. No single business unit accounts for more than about one-third of Microsoft's revenue or profits. Chart by author.</p>\n<p>And this image still doesn't quite do the bullish thesis its full justice.</p>\n<p>Within the Productivity and Business Processes arm you'll find commercial and consumer office productivity software revenue -- think \"Office\" software suites -- as well as LinkedIn. The Intelligent Cloud unit not only offers products needed to power servers, but it also includes Azure software that allows cloud computing managers to interface with their hardware. More Personal Computing covers everything from the aforementioned Windows operating system to video gaming to laptops like the Surface. All told, Microsoft manages 14 distinctly different businesses. That gives the company plenty of opportunities to sell something to somebody at any given time, smoothing out any temporary headwinds faced by any one of its units.</p>\n<p>And don't look past the fact that Microsoft already enjoys a commanding control of the computer operating system market; GlobalStats' statcounter indicates that Windows is installed on 76% of the world's desktops and laptops. Already the centerpiece of most corporate and consumer computing environments, Microsoft is not only positioned as a gatekeeper, but a go-to app and software vendor. This positioning helps the company maintain its leading market share, as does the world's familiarity with Windows itself.</p>\n<p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/9301e6d5d0a8701d14e0f3fac4791232\" tg-width=\"700\" tg-height=\"466\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"></p>\n<p>Image source: Getty Images.</p>\n<p>Bolstering the bullish agreement here is the less appreciated factoid that much of this revenue is the result of subscriptions to services like Xbox Game Pass, Office 365, and Azure.</p>\n<p>While the company itself isn't terribly forthcoming with the specifics, Microsoft confirmed during its most recent earnings call that its commercial (non-consumer) businesses are sitting on $141 billion worth of \"remaining performance obligations,\" up 32% year over year. That just means these clients have already agreed to purchase services, but the company can't yet book that revenue since the service itself has yet to be delivered. For perspective, Microsoft did $168.1 billion worth of business during fiscal 2021.</p>\n<h3>Look for more growth from Microsoft</h3>\n<p>The end result of all these dynamics is a company that's been growing reliably in a variety of ways for a variety of reasons. This <i>isn't</i> the proverbial one-trick pony it was 25 years ago, when Windows was at the core of everything the company did and one-time sales of software were the norm.</p>\n<p>As evidence of how brilliant this evolution has been, one only has to look at the company's past and projected fiscals. The analyst community is calling for revenue growth of 14% this year and nearly 13% next year, matched by comparable per-share earnings growth for the two-year stretch... and why not? It helps with real-time information logging, overseeing service and product issues, managing online marketing campaigns, and can offer predictive analysis of what existing clients might buy a new product or service. It's a sustainable double-digit growth opportunity that's been a no-brainer tool used by service-oriented industries, but is becoming more widely used by healthcare, financial, and industrial companies.</p>\n<p>Salesforce is the king of the mountain when it comes to cloud-based CRM. According to estimates from IDC, salesforce nearly controlled 20% of global CRM revenue share in the first-half of 2020. That nearly quadruples its next-closest competitor, and it <i>is</i> more than the four closest competitors, combined.</p>\n<p>In addition to growing its business organically, salesforce has a rich history of making smart acquisitions. Some of its most successful include purchasing Tableau Software in 2019, and MuleSoft in 2018. The latter is responsible for powering the Salesforce Integration Cloud, while the former is a data treasure trove that helps businesses gain a deeper understanding of their customers.</p>\n<p>The newest deal, tallying $27.7 billion, is for cloud-based enterprise communications platform <b><a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/WORK\">Slack Technologies</a></b>. This deal will allow the company to cross-sell its suite of CRM support solutions to Slack's bevy of small-and-medium-sized businesses.</p>\n<p>This combination of market share dominance, organic growth, and acquisitions has salesforce growing at 20% or more annually. Per CEO Marc Benioff, salesforce is on track to hit a goal of $50 billion in annual sales by fiscal 2026 (up from $21.3 billion in fiscal 2021). A second top stock that can make you a lot richer in the latter half of 2021 (and beyond) is precious-metal miner <b>SSR Mining</b> (NASDAQ:SSRM).</p>\n<p>Roughly 10 years ago, gold and silver were soaring and precious-metal miners were liberally spending on new projects, existing mine expansions, and acquisitions. After the price of gold peaked, many were left with less-than-stellar balance sheets. That's not been the case with SSR Mining.</p>\n<p>Last year, SSR completed a merger of equals with Turkey's Alacer Gold. This effectively combined SSR's Marigold and Seabee gold mines, and its silver-producing Puna operations in Argentina, with Alacer's Copler gold mine. Altogether, these four producing assets should yield between 700,000 gold equivalent ounces (GEO) and 800,000 GEO annually for the next five years, if not longer. Prior to the deal, SSR was producing a little north of 400,000 GEO annually.</p>\n<p>Here's the thing: Whereas most gold stocks have scrambled to pay down debt, SSR is sitting on a net cash balance of around $400 million, as of the end of March 2021. The roughly $450 million the company is expecting to generate in annual free cash flow has allowed it to begin paying a $0.05 quarterly dividend, as well as institute a $150 million share buyback program.</p>\n<p>In addition to improved output, a dividend, and a share buyback program, SSR Mining should benefit from stronger precious-metal prices. The Federal Reserve continues to hold off on raising historically low lending rates, while the prospect for longer-term inflation is climbing. Both scenarios point to investors continuing to flock to gold as a potential store of value.</p>\n<p>Just how cheap is SSR Mining? Shares can currently be purchased for less than 9 times Wall Street's forward-year earnings estimate. But considering the regulatory issues and atrocious balance sheets that accompany most Canadian pot stocks, the U.S. is the smart way to play the cannabis craze. By mid-decade, the U.S. could be bringing in more than $41 billion in annual weed sales, per <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/NFC.U\">New Frontier</a> Data.</p>\n<p>What makes multistate operator (MSO) Trulieve so special is how the company has chosen to expand. Many large MSOs have opened retail, cultivation, and processing facilities in as many legalized states as reasonable. As for Trulieve, it has 91 operational retail locations in the U.S., 85 of which are located in medical marijuana-legal Florida. That's right -- it's opened 85 dispensaries in a single state.</p>\n<p>How's that worked out? By blanketing the Sunshine State, Trulieve Cannabis has been able to gobble up 53% of Florida's dried cannabis market share and 49% of its higher-margin cannabinoid oils share. In other words, the company has effectively built up its brand and a loyal customer following without having to break the bank with its marketing budget. As a result, it recently reported its 13th consecutive profitable quarter.</p>\n<p>In May, we learned that the next chapter for Trulieve will entail taking its blueprint to new markets. On May 10, it announced a $2.1 billion deal to acquire MSO <b>Harvest Health &amp; Recreation</b> (OTC:HRVSF). Harvest Health has a five-state focus, one of which includes Florida. Thus, Trulieve will soon have an even larger presence in the Sunshine State. But the big driver of this deal is Harvest's 15 operational dispensaries in Arizona, which legalized adult-use cannabis in November and began sales in January. When considering the health of its long term uptrend, it’s clear that BABA has a relatively strong uptrend bias and has generally been well supported along its key 50W MA. The only other time in the last 4 years that it lost its key 50W MA support level was during the 2018 bear market where BABA dropped about 40%, but was still well supported above the important 200W MA, which we usually consider as the “last line of defense”. Right now BABA is somewhat facing a similar situation again: down 34%, lost the 50W MA, but looks to be well supported above the 200W MA. In addition to that, one interesting observation in price action analysis may lead price action traders/investors to be especially bullish: a potential double bottom formation. BABA's price is seemingly going through a double bottom like it did during the 2018 bear market before it rallied strongly thereafter. As a result, BABA’s current level may offer a possible technical buy entry point now.</p>\n<p><b>BABA's Fundamental Thesis: Rapidly Expanding Growth Drivers</b></p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/eba49f5881708929949c30628eedc5d4\" tg-width=\"934\" tg-height=\"578\"><span>Annual GMV. Data source: Company filings</span></p>\n<p>BABA’s GMV grew from 1.68T yuan to 7.49T yuan in just a matter of 7 years, which represented a CAGR of 23.8%, a truly amazing growth rate. We also saw its GMV growth being converted into revenue growth as its China commerce revenue grew from 7.67B yuan to 473.68B yuan, at a CAGR of 51% over the last 10 years. While its international footprint remains considerably smaller, it still grew at a CAGR of 30.42% over the last 10 years, which was by no means slow.</p>\n<p>Even though China’s e-commerce market is expected to grow considerably slower at a CAGR of 12.4% over the next three years, from 13.8T yuan, equivalent to $2.16T in 2021 to 19.6T yuan,equivalent to $3.06T by 2024, the massive size of the market still offers tremendous upside potential for BABA and its closest competitors to grow into.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/ffe2dee43f267e1d1399c68e3ca60f36\" tg-width=\"600\" tg-height=\"371\"><span>E-commerce revenue in the U.S. Data source: Statista</span></p>\n<p>When we take things into clearer perspective by comparing China’s growth rate and size of its market to that of the U.S. e-commerce market, we could see the huge differences in their sizes and growth rates as the U.S. e-commerce market is only expected to grow at a CAGR of 4.67% from 2021 to 2025, which is significantly slower than China’s 12.4%. In addition, the U.S. market is also expected to reach about $563B in total revenue, which is 18% of what the China market is expected to be worth by then.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/0d5a8d0d8a6a2dcdf667a6f33c6c9771\" tg-width=\"1280\" tg-height=\"702\"><span>Peers EBIT Margin and Projected EBIT Margin. Data source: S&amp;P Capital IQ</span></p>\n<p>Even though Alibaba has been facing increased competitive pressures from its fast growing key competitors: JD.com(NASDAQ:JD)and Pinduoduo(NASDAQ:PDD), BABA has already been operating a much more profitable business (both EBIT and FCF), and is expected to continue delivering strong profitability moving forward, which should give the company tremendous flexibility to compete head on with JD and PDD in its quest to extend its leadership. Investors may observe that BABA’s EBIT margin was affected by the one-off administrative penalty of $2,782M that was reflected in its SG&amp;A, and therefore skewed its EBIT margin to the downside.</p>\n<p>One important move was the company’s decision to further its investment in the Community Marketplace, which is PDD’s main e-commerce strategy that saw PDD gain a total of&nbsp;823M AAC&nbsp;in its latest quarter as compared to BABA’s 891M AAC. PDD’s AAC growth is truly phenomenal considering it had only&nbsp;100M AAC in Q2’C17&nbsp;as compared to BABA’s 466M AAC in the same period.</p>\n<p>Therefore, the momentum of growth has surely swung over to the Community Marketplace segment and BABA would need to pull out its big guns (which it has) to compete for dominance with PDD and JD.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/3b83b69b08b1f4b11a26393c8e6eead5\" tg-width=\"600\" tg-height=\"371\"><span>Market size of community group buying in China. Data source: iiMedia Research</span></p>\n<p>Even though the expected total market size of 102B yuan by 2022 represented only about 21.5% of BABA’s FY 21 China commerce revenue, the expected rapid CAGR of 44.22% over 3 years from 2019 to 2022 cannot be missed by BABA. Although the market is still relatively small, BABA cannot allow the current leader in this market: PDD to so easily dominate and gobble up the early high growth rates at the ignorance of everyone else. Certainly BABA must compete and fight for its place in this segment and strive for early leadership to prevent PDD from extending its lead.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/b97b2b4a8a182dc9846d8fb7e4039877\" tg-width=\"1280\" tg-height=\"770\"><span>PDD profitability metrics &amp; revenue growth forecast. More importantly, PDD is also expected to increasingly improve its EBIT and FCF profitability moving forward. This shows that the Community Marketplace segment is an highly important growth driver that BABA must use its strength to exploit in order to deny PDD’s claim to undisputed leadership so early on in the game.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/3aadc32155b4108426a1a982e3b5b1c2\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"360\"><span>China public cloud spending. However, it’s important to note that despite this leadership, BABA is still in heavy investment mode to continue growing its market share as China’s public cloud market is expected to grow from 26.48B yuan in 2017 to 230.74B yuan by 2023, which would represent a CAGR of 43.4%, an incredibly stellar growth rate. This is especially clear when we compare China’s growth rate to the worldwide growth rate (see below) as public cloud spending worldwide is expected to grow from $145B in 2017 to $397B by 2022, that would represent a CAGR of 22.3%.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/06198c569504bc303c34563041dfb294\" tg-width=\"600\" tg-height=\"371\"><span>Worldwide public cloud spending. While AMZN remains the clear leader in the market, its market share has been coming down considerably as public cloud spending continues to expand, indicating that there is a huge potential for growth for multiple players to exist. With BABA’s leadership in the rapidly expanding Chinese market, I’m increasingly bullish on the future profit and FCF contribution from this segment to BABA’s performance over time. Although BABA’s cloud segment has not been EBIT profitable yet (FY 21 EBIT margin: -15%, FY 20 EBIT margin: -17.5%), it’s also useful to note that GCP has also not been profitable for Alphabet as well (FY 20 EBIT margin: -42.9%, FY 19 EBIT margin: -52%). We derived a fair value range for BABA of $294.98 at the midpoint of the range, that represented a potential upside of 40.5% based on the current stock price of $210.</p>\n<p><b>Risks to Assumptions</b></p>\n<p>Now, it’s obviously baffling to watch how Mr. Market has decided to discount BABA to such an extent as if the company has lost all its key sources of growth, when in fact there is still so much potential upside coming from its commerce segment, the new marketplace initiatives and its growing Ali Cloud segment, among others. The main realistic reason that we identified for the stock's underperformance would simply be regulatory risk. We think investors should acknowledge that this risk is very real and at times huge Chinese companies have found themselves to be subjected to extra scrutiny (which is nothing new in fact) by the Chinese government. What’s critical here is that the Chinese government seemingly has significant clout over the behavior and actions of their tech behemoths that at times may be largely unpredictable. The market certainly hates unpredictability and therefore they may have significantly discounted BABA as a result of that. If investors are not able to handle uncertainty with regard to potentially unpredictable regulatory actions and their aftermath, then BABA may not be appropriate for you. However, if you believe that this is just a blip in BABA’s long journey, then you would surely find BABA's valuations extremely attractive right now, coupled with a long term mindset.</p>\n<p><b>Wrapping It All Up</b></p>\n<p>Alibaba has continued to deliver solid results that demonstrated the strong capability of the company to execute well. When considering the health of its long term uptrend, it’s clear that BABA has a relatively strong uptrend bias and has generally been well supported along its key 50W MA. The only other time in the last 4 years that it lost its key 50W MA support level was during the 2018 bear market where BABA dropped about 40%, but was still well supported above the important 200W MA, which we usually consider as the “last line of defense”. Right now BABA is somewhat facing a similar situation again: down 34%, lost the 50W MA, but looks to be well supported above the 200W MA. In addition to that, one interesting observation in price action analysis may lead price action traders/investors to be especially bullish: a potential double bottom formation. BABA's price is seemingly going through a double bottom like it did during the 2018 bear market before it rallied strongly thereafter. We also saw its GMV growth being converted into revenue growth as its China commerce revenue grew from 7.67B yuan to 473.68B yuan, at a CAGR of 51% over the last 10 years. While its international footprint remains considerably smaller, it still grew at a CAGR of 30.42% over the last 10 years, which was by no means slow.\nEven though China’s e-commerce market is expected to grow considerably slower at a CAGR of 12.4% over the next three years, from 13.8T yuan, equivalent to $2.16T in 2021 to 19.6T yuan,equivalent to $3.06T by 2024, the massive size of the market still offers tremendous upside potential for BABA and its closest competitors to grow into.\nE-commerce revenue in the U.S. Data source: Statista\nWhen we take things into clearer perspective by comparing China’s growth rate and size of its market to that of the U.S. e-commerce market, we could see the huge differences in their sizes and growth rates as the U.S. e-commerce market is only expected to grow at a CAGR of 4.67% from 2021 to 2025, which is significantly slower than China’s 12.4%. Data source: S&P Capital IQ\nEven though Alibaba has been facing increased competitive pressures from its fast growing key competitors: JD.com(NASDAQ:JD)and Pinduoduo(NASDAQ:PDD), BABA has already been operating a much more profitable business (both EBIT and FCF), and is expected to continue delivering strong profitability moving forward, which should give the company tremendous flexibility to compete head on with JD and PDD in its quest to extend its leadership. Investors may observe that BABA’s EBIT margin was affected by the one-off administrative penalty of $2,782M that was reflected in its SG&A, and therefore skewed its EBIT margin to the downside.\nOne important move was the company’s decision to further its investment in the Community Marketplace, which is PDD’s main e-commerce strategy that saw PDD gain a total of 823M AAC in its latest quarter as compared to BABA’s 891M AAC. The wealthiest countries have taken an outsize share of the more than 2.4 billion shots administered so far.\nThe proliferation of variants in the CureVac trial is testimony to how the pandemic has changed since the first large vaccine clinical trials were run last year.\nGenetic Sequencing\nCureVac’s researchers genetically sequenced 124 of the 134 cases they included in their analysis. Just one of the sequenced cases was due to the original SARS-CoV-2 virus first identified in Wuhan, China. The rest came from a range of variants, including 21% of cases attributable to a new variant called lambda that was first identified in Peru.\nTheWorld Health Organization added lambda to its watchlist as a variant of interest on Monday.\nSome 57% of the Covid cases in the study were due to so-called variants of concern, the four variants that the World Health Organization has deemed the most worrying. Most of these -- about 41% of all the cases -- were due to the alpha variant first observed in the U.K., CureVac said.\nThat variant is now the most common in the U.S., and other vaccines, including shots from Pfizer Inc. and BioNTech SE as well as Novavax Inc., have shown themselves effective against it. CureVac didn’t release detailed data about how its shot performed against each of the variants.\nFinal Readout\nMore details will emerge in the final readout of the study, which will include more than 200 Covid cases and could come within two or three weeks, CureVac said.\nLike the shots from Moderna Inc. and the Pfizer-BioNtech alliance, CureVac’s vaccine relies on mRNA, enlisting the body’s own cells as vaccine factories. That's a pretty tall order these days.</p>\n<p>There are a few companies out there of this ilk though, and my favorite all-weather name among them is<b> Microsoft</b> (NASDAQ:MSFT).</p>\n<p>Surprised? I get it. The company is seemingly dependent on just one highly competitive and often-cyclical technology business -- software, and its Windows operating systems in particular. The stock's also uncomfortably expensive right now, valued at more than 33 times this year's projected profits and more than 29 times next year's earnings estimates.. With a closer look though, you'll find that Microsoft is so much more than just Windows, and that this stock easily justifies its premium price.</p>\n<h3>Several ways to make money, and they all work</h3>\n<p>Its roots may have been in software sales. But, don't think for a minute this company hasn't evolved into an organization relevant to all of today's most important markets.</p>\n<p>The graphic below tells the tale, depicting recently ended fiscal 2021's results. No single business unit accounts for more than about one-third of Microsoft's revenue or profits. Indeed, the company's top and bottom lines are amazingly well distributed across all three of its key operating segments.</p>\n<p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/6dc5da28f57d0e1ea35fcc3088e841f4\" tg-width=\"700\" tg-height=\"423\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"></p>\n<p>Data source: Microsoft. Chart by author.</p>\n<p>And this image still doesn't quite do the bullish thesis its full justice.</p>\n<p>Within the Productivity and Business Processes arm you'll find commercial and consumer office productivity software revenue -- think \"Office\" software suites -- as well as LinkedIn. The Intelligent Cloud unit not only offers products needed to power servers, but it also includes Azure software that allows cloud computing managers to interface with their hardware. More Personal Computing covers everything from the aforementioned Windows operating system to video gaming to laptops like the Surface. All told, Microsoft manages 14 distinctly different businesses. That gives the company plenty of opportunities to sell something to somebody at any given time, smoothing out any temporary headwinds faced by any one of its units.</p>\n<p>And don't look past the fact that Microsoft already enjoys a commanding control of the computer operating system market; GlobalStats' statcounter indicates that Windows is installed on 76% of the world's desktops and laptops. Already the centerpiece of most corporate and consumer computing environments, Microsoft is not only positioned as a gatekeeper, but a go-to app and software vendor. This positioning helps the company maintain its leading market share, as does the world's familiarity with Windows itself.</p>\n<p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/9301e6d5d0a8701d14e0f3fac4791232\" tg-width=\"700\" tg-height=\"466\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"></p>\n<p>Image source: Getty Images.</p>\n<p>Bolstering the bullish agreement here is the less appreciated factoid that much of this revenue is the result of subscriptions to services like Xbox Game Pass, Office 365, and Azure.</p>\n<p>While the company itself isn't terribly forthcoming with the specifics, Microsoft confirmed during its most recent earnings call that its commercial (non-consumer) businesses are sitting on $141 billion worth of \"remaining performance obligations,\" up 32% year over year. That just means these clients have already agreed to purchase services, but the company can't yet book that revenue since the service itself has yet to be delivered. For perspective, Microsoft did $168.1 billion worth of business during fiscal 2021.</p>\n<h3>Look for more growth from Microsoft</h3>\n<p>The end result of all these dynamics is a company that's been growing reliably in a variety of ways for a variety of reasons. This <i>isn't</i> the proverbial one-trick pony it was 25 years ago, when Windows was at the core of everything the company did and one-time sales of software were the norm.</p>\n<p>As evidence of how brilliant this evolution has been, one only has to look at the company's past and projected fiscals. The analyst community is calling for revenue growth of 14% this year and nearly 13% next year, matched by comparable per-share earnings growth for the two-year stretch... and why not? We've lived without the cloud, mobile computing, and high-performance video games before; but, now that the world has gotten used to having all of these tech-based offerings around, people aren't apt to regress now.</p>\n<p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/955d70dda02a3bba74fa5668c2b6e732\" tg-width=\"700\" tg-height=\"447\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"></p>\n<p>Data source: Thomson Reuters. That gives the company plenty of opportunities to sell something to somebody at any given time, smoothing out any temporary headwinds faced by any one of its units.\nAnd don't look past the fact that Microsoft already enjoys a commanding control of the computer operating system market; GlobalStats' statcounter indicates that Windows is installed on 76% of the world's desktops and laptops. Already the centerpiece of most corporate and consumer computing environments, Microsoft is not only positioned as a gatekeeper, but a go-to app and software vendor. This positioning helps the company maintain its leading market share, as does the world's familiarity with Windows itself.\n\nImage source: Getty Images.\nBolstering the bullish agreement here is the less appreciated factoid that much of this revenue is the result of subscriptions to services like Xbox Game Pass, Office 365, and Azure.\nWhile the company itself isn't terribly forthcoming with the specifics, Microsoft confirmed during its most recent earnings call that its commercial (non-consumer) businesses are sitting on $141 billion worth of \"remaining performance obligations,\" up 32% year over year. That just means these clients have already agreed to purchase services, but the company can't yet book that revenue since the service itself has yet to be delivered. For perspective, Microsoft did $168.1 billion worth of business during fiscal 2021.\nLook for more growth from Microsoft\nThe end result of all these dynamics is a company that's been growing reliably in a variety of ways for a variety of reasons. This isn't the proverbial one-trick pony it was 25 years ago, when Windows was at the core of everything the company did and one-time sales of software were the norm.\nAs evidence of how brilliant this evolution has been, one only has to look at the company's past and projected fiscals. The analyst community is calling for revenue growth of 14% this year and nearly 13% next year, matched by comparable per-share earnings growth for the two-year stretch... and why not? When considering the health of its long term uptrend, it’s clear that BABA has a relatively strong uptrend bias and has generally been well supported along its key 50W MA. The only other time in the last 4 years that it lost its key 50W MA support level was during the 2018 bear market where BABA dropped about 40%, but was still well supported above the important 200W MA, which we usually consider as the “last line of defense”. Right now BABA is somewhat facing a similar situation again: down 34%, lost the 50W MA, but looks to be well supported above the 200W MA. In addition to that, one interesting observation in price action analysis may lead price action traders/investors to be especially bullish: a potential double bottom formation. BABA's price is seemingly going through a double bottom like it did during the 2018 bear market before it rallied strongly thereafter. As a result, BABA’s current level may offer a possible technical buy entry point now.</p>\n<p><b>BABA's Fundamental Thesis: Rapidly Expanding Growth Drivers</b></p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/eba49f5881708929949c30628eedc5d4\" tg-width=\"934\" tg-height=\"578\"><span>Annual GMV. Data source: Company filings</span></p>\n<p>BABA’s GMV grew from 1.68T yuan to 7.49T yuan in just a matter of 7 years, which represented a CAGR of 23.8%, a truly amazing growth rate. We also saw its GMV growth being converted into revenue growth as its China commerce revenue grew from 7.67B yuan to 473.68B yuan, at a CAGR of 51% over the last 10 years. While its international footprint remains considerably smaller, it still grew at a CAGR of 30.42% over the last 10 years, which was by no means slow.</p>\n<p>Even though China’s e-commerce market is expected to grow considerably slower at a CAGR of 12.4% over the next three years, from 13.8T yuan, equivalent to $2.16T in 2021 to 19.6T yuan,equivalent to $3.06T by 2024, the massive size of the market still offers tremendous upside potential for BABA and its closest competitors to grow into.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/ffe2dee43f267e1d1399c68e3ca60f36\" tg-width=\"600\" tg-height=\"371\"><span>E-commerce revenue in the U.S. Data source: Statista</span></p>\n<p>When we take things into clearer perspective by comparing China’s growth rate and size of its market to that of the U.S. e-commerce market, we could see the huge differences in their sizes and growth rates as the U.S. e-commerce market is only expected to grow at a CAGR of 4.67% from 2021 to 2025, which is significantly slower than China’s 12.4%. In addition, the U.S. market is also expected to reach about $563B in total revenue, which is 18% of what the China market is expected to be worth by then.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/0d5a8d0d8a6a2dcdf667a6f33c6c9771\" tg-width=\"1280\" tg-height=\"702\"><span>Peers EBIT Margin and Projected EBIT Margin. Data source: S&amp;P Capital IQ</span></p>\n<p>Even though Alibaba has been facing increased competitive pressures from its fast growing key competitors: JD.com(NASDAQ:JD)and Pinduoduo(NASDAQ:PDD), BABA has already been operating a much more profitable business (both EBIT and FCF), and is expected to continue delivering strong profitability moving forward, which should give the company tremendous flexibility to compete head on with JD and PDD in its quest to extend its leadership. Investors may observe that BABA’s EBIT margin was affected by the one-off administrative penalty of $2,782M that was reflected in its SG&amp;A, and therefore skewed its EBIT margin to the downside.</p>\n<p>One important move was the company’s decision to further its investment in the Community Marketplace, which is PDD’s main e-commerce strategy that saw PDD gain a total of&nbsp;823M AAC&nbsp;in its latest quarter as compared to BABA’s 891M AAC. PDD’s AAC growth is truly phenomenal considering it had only&nbsp;100M AAC in Q2’C17&nbsp;as compared to BABA’s 466M AAC in the same period.</p>\n<p>Therefore, the momentum of growth has surely swung over to the Community Marketplace segment and BABA would need to pull out its big guns (which it has) to compete for dominance with PDD and JD.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/3b83b69b08b1f4b11a26393c8e6eead5\" tg-width=\"600\" tg-height=\"371\"><span>Market size of community group buying in China. Data source: iiMedia Research</span></p>\n<p>Even though the expected total market size of 102B yuan by 2022 represented only about 21.5% of BABA’s FY 21 China commerce revenue, the expected rapid CAGR of 44.22% over 3 years from 2019 to 2022 cannot be missed by BABA. Although the market is still relatively small, BABA cannot allow the current leader in this market: PDD to so easily dominate and gobble up the early high growth rates at the ignorance of everyone else. Certainly BABA must compete and fight for its place in this segment and strive for early leadership to prevent PDD from extending its lead.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/b97b2b4a8a182dc9846d8fb7e4039877\" tg-width=\"1280\" tg-height=\"770\"><span>PDD profitability metrics &amp; revenue growth forecast. More importantly, PDD is also expected to increasingly improve its EBIT and FCF profitability moving forward. This shows that the Community Marketplace segment is an highly important growth driver that BABA must use its strength to exploit in order to deny PDD’s claim to undisputed leadership so early on in the game.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/3aadc32155b4108426a1a982e3b5b1c2\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"360\"><span>China public cloud spending. However, it’s important to note that despite this leadership, BABA is still in heavy investment mode to continue growing its market share as China’s public cloud market is expected to grow from 26.48B yuan in 2017 to 230.74B yuan by 2023, which would represent a CAGR of 43.4%, an incredibly stellar growth rate. This is especially clear when we compare China’s growth rate to the worldwide growth rate (see below) as public cloud spending worldwide is expected to grow from $145B in 2017 to $397B by 2022, that would represent a CAGR of 22.3%.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/06198c569504bc303c34563041dfb294\" tg-width=\"600\" tg-height=\"371\"><span>Worldwide public cloud spending. Source:CnTechPost; Gartner</span></p>\n<p>Therefore, I don’t find it surprising that Ali Cloud has continued to extend its lead over Alphabet’s(NASDAQ:GOOGL)(NASDAQ:GOOG)GCP with a market share of 9.5% in 2020. While AMZN remains the clear leader in the market, its market share has been coming down considerably as public cloud spending continues to expand, indicating that there is a huge potential for growth for multiple players to exist. With BABA’s leadership in the rapidly expanding Chinese market, I’m increasingly bullish on the future profit and FCF contribution from this segment to BABA’s performance over time. Although BABA’s cloud segment has not been EBIT profitable yet (FY 21 EBIT margin: -15%, FY 20 EBIT margin: -17.5%), it’s also useful to note that GCP has also not been profitable for Alphabet as well (FY 20 EBIT margin: -42.9%, FY 19 EBIT margin: -52%). Data source: S&amp;P Capital IQ</span></p>\n<p>When we consider BABA's TEV / EBIT historical range, where the 3Y mean read 33.54x, BABA’s EV / Fwd EBIT trend certainly imply a hugely undervalued stock as BABA is still expected to grow its revenue and operating profits rapidly. However, as we wanted to obtain greater clarity over how its counterparts are also valued, we thought it would be useful if we value BABA’s EBIT over a set of benchmark companies that is presented below.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/d27873e676dfb23c98d4a69aa5861e02\" tg-width=\"1280\" tg-height=\"1117\"><span>Peers EV / EBIT Valuations. Data source: S&amp;P Capital IQ</span></p>\n<p>By using a blend of historical and forward EBIT, we could see that BABA’s EV / EBIT really looks undervalued when compared to the median value of the set of observed values from the benchmark companies. We derived a fair value range for BABA of $294.98 at the midpoint of the range, that represented a potential upside of 40.5% based on the current stock price of $210.</p>\n<p><b>Risks to Assumptions</b></p>\n<p>Now, it’s obviously baffling to watch how Mr. Market has decided to discount BABA to such an extent as if the company has lost all its key sources of growth, when in fact there is still so much potential upside coming from its commerce segment, the new marketplace initiatives and its growing Ali Cloud segment, among others. The main realistic reason that we identified for the stock's underperformance would simply be regulatory risk. We think investors should acknowledge that this risk is very real and at times huge Chinese companies have found themselves to be subjected to extra scrutiny (which is nothing new in fact) by the Chinese government. What’s critical here is that the Chinese government seemingly has significant clout over the behavior and actions of their tech behemoths that at times may be largely unpredictable. The market certainly hates unpredictability and therefore they may have significantly discounted BABA as a result of that. If investors are not able to handle uncertainty with regard to potentially unpredictable regulatory actions and their aftermath, then BABA may not be appropriate for you. However, if you believe that this is just a blip in BABA’s long journey, then you would surely find BABA's valuations extremely attractive right now, coupled with a long term mindset.</p>\n<p><b>Wrapping It All Up</b></p>\n<p>Alibaba has continued to deliver solid results that demonstrated the strong capability of the company to execute well. CNN Business reporters will be on the ground during the flight and will post live updates on our site.</p>\n<p>How is this different from what SpaceX and Virgin Galactic do?</p>\n<p>Bezos' flight will come just nine days after British billionaire Richard Branson took his own supersonic joy ride to the edge of space, the result of a surprise announcement that came from his space company, Virgin Galactic, days after Bezos announced his intention to go to space.</p>\n<p>The two men's companies — and their PR machines — have since entered into a public back-and-forth, though the billionaires themselves have said they're not interested in racing to become the first to actually rocket into space aboard a craft they helped fund.</p>\n<p>But suborbital space tourism isn't all that Branson and Bezos are pursuing with their space ventures. Nor is it the largest or most important sector in the burgeoning commercial space industry.</p>\n<p>Branson, Musk and Bezos, however, have all been compared for years because of their similarities — all three men used fortune they accrued through other lines of business to pursue space-focused ventures. Here's how they break down:</p>\n<p>Elon Musk's SpaceX has for years been making headlines and breaking records with its rocket technology — and it is far different than what Blue Origin will debut on Tuesday.</p>\n<p>First off, SpaceX builds orbital rockets. Orbital rockets need to drum up enough power to hit at least 17,000 miles per hour, or what's known as orbital velocity, essentially giving a spacecraft enough energy to continue whipping around the Earth rather than being dragged immediately back down by gravity. That's how SpaceX is able to put satellites into orbit or carry astronauts to and from the International Space Station.</p>\n<p>Suborbital flights, however, don't need to travel nearly as fast. They need only reach an altitude above the 50 miles mark — which the US government considers to mark the edge of outer space — or the 62-mile mark, which is internationally considered the demarcating line. (New Shepard is expected to reach over 62 miles.)</p>\n<p>What New Shepard will do on Tuesday will more closely resemble what Richard Branson — the other, other space billionaire — is planning to do with his company, Virgin Galactic.</p>\n<p>Virgin Galactic is also planning to launch wealthy tourists to suborbital space, though it developed a much different vehicle to get there. Rather than an autonomous rocket that takes off vertically, Virgin Galactic has built a piloted space plane that takes off from a runway (much like an airplane) attached to a massive winged mothership.</p>\n<p>Virgin Galactic has completed test flights of its own, and Branson became the first billionaire to fly to space aboard a rocket he helped fund on July 11.</p>\n<p>How risky is this?</p>\n<p>Space travel is, historically, fraught with danger. Though the risks are not necessarily astronomical for Bezos' jaunt to suborbital space, as his space company Blue Origin has spent the better part of the last decade running New Shepard through a series of successful test flights.</p>\n<p>Suborbital flights also require far less power and speed than orbital rockets. CNN Business reporters will be on the ground during the flight and will post live updates on our site.\nHow is this different from what SpaceX and Virgin Galactic do?\nBezos' flight will come just nine days after British billionaire Richard Branson took his own supersonic joy ride to the edge of space, the result of a surprise announcement that came from his space company, Virgin Galactic, days after Bezos announced his intention to go to space.\nThe two men's companies — and their PR machines — have since entered into a public back-and-forth, though the billionaires themselves have said they're not interested in racing to become the first to actually rocket into space aboard a craft they helped fund.\nBut suborbital space tourism isn't all that Branson and Bezos are pursuing with their space ventures. Nor is it the largest or most important sector in the burgeoning commercial space industry.\nBranson, Musk and Bezos, however, have all been compared for years because of their similarities — all three men used fortune they accrued through other lines of business to pursue space-focused ventures. Here's how they break down:\nElon Musk's SpaceX has for years been making headlines and breaking records with its rocket technology — and it is far different than what Blue Origin will debut on Tuesday.\nFirst off, SpaceX builds orbital rockets. Orbital rockets need to drum up enough power to hit at least 17,000 miles per hour, or what's known as orbital velocity, essentially giving a spacecraft enough energy to continue whipping around the Earth rather than being dragged immediately back down by gravity. That's how SpaceX is able to put satellites into orbit or carry astronauts to and from the International Space Station.\nSuborbital flights, however, don't need to travel nearly as fast. They need only reach an altitude above the 50 miles mark — which the US government considers to mark the edge of outer space — or the 62-mile mark, which is internationally considered the demarcating line. (New Shepard is expected to reach over 62 miles.)\nWhat New Shepard will do on Tuesday will more closely resemble what Richard Branson — the other, other space billionaire — is planning to do with his company, Virgin Galactic.\nVirgin Galactic is also planning to launch wealthy tourists to suborbital space, though it developed a much different vehicle to get there. Rather than an autonomous rocket that takes off vertically, Virgin Galactic has built a piloted space plane that takes off from a runway (much like an airplane) attached to a massive winged mothership.\nVirgin Galactic has completed test flights of its own, and Branson became the first billionaire to fly to space aboard a rocket he helped fund on July 11.\nHow risky is this?\nSpace travel is, historically, fraught with danger. Though the risks are not necessarily astronomical for Bezos' jaunt to suborbital space, as his space company Blue Origin has spent the better part of the last decade running New Shepard through a series of successful test flights.\nSuborbital flights also require far less power and speed than orbital rockets.
