But top media analysts have argued that this is not time to panic.

"This is not over," LightShed Partners' Rich Greenfield told Yahoo Finance Live this week. "The reality is that we're still very early in the streaming conversion from linear TV to streaming television."

The analyst dismissed the notion that Netflix has hit some sort of a ceiling, noting that the company's roughly 222 million subscribers hasn't even touched the service.

"There's probably 600 to 800 million homes with high enough quality broadband to support Netflix streaming, or any streaming service," he explained.

"There's still lots of growth to go [but unfortunately] it isn't always the pretty straight line that the market would like," Greenfield added.

In 2021, the stock underperformed the S&P 500 (^GSPC) after a blockbuster 2020 that saw streaming players soar on the wings of COVID-19 inspired "stay at home" trades.

Fueled by the shift to remote work and online school, subscriber numbers surged by a record 25.9 million additions in the first half of that turbulent year, before dropping off significantly as the effects that bolstered the "stay at home" trade ran its course.

Bank of America, which lowered its price target to $605 but reiterated its "Buy" rating, suggested that Netflix's earnings report could shift Wall Street's mindset moving forward.

"[Netflix] is actually very confident in the next several years. Discovery."

Netflix has re-focused its attention on international markets with BofA seeing "continued growth in Asia" as a key driver in 2022.

'More shots on goal than anyone else'

Squid Game (Courtesy: Netflix)

Netflix has already set the tone for the upcoming year, hiking its U.S. basic plan by $1 to $9.99 per month. A standard plan now costs $15.49 (up from $13.99.), and the company's premium plan increased to $19.99 per month from $17.99.

Netflix COO Greg Peters said during its earnings call that "customers are willing to pay for great entertainment," with fan favorite originals including "Ozark," "Bridgerton," "Stranger Things" and "The Crown" all set to make triumphant returns this year.

And compared to other streamers, LightShed's Greenfield credited Netflix with taking "more shots on goal than anyone else." He cited the surprise success of "Squid Game" as one recent example, with a record 142 million people watched the hit South Korean show in its first four weeks.

"Nobody had 'Squid Game' as the breakout hit that was going to fuel Q4 a year ago," the analyst said, surmising that Netflix will surprise people this year due to "the amount of shots on goal that they're taking."

Still, Netflix acknowledged that competition may be "affecting marginal growth some" during its earnings call on Thursday night. While the company still leads in paid users — Amazon Prime Video has 175 million subscribers and Disney’s Hulu, Disney+, and ESPN+ have a total of 179 million subscribers — other streaming peers are quickly catching up.

Despite the competition, Greenfield reiterated that Netflix is uniquely positioned thanks, in large part, to its commitment to content.

"There is certainly a fear that if Netflix doesn't have enough content to continue to grow subscribers, imagine what everyone else has to do, the analyst said. Competitors "are spending far, far less than Netflix."

Greenfield argued investors should breathe a sigh of relief knowing that the streamer is continuing to spend billions of dollars on content around the globe.

"If Netflix was telling you, 'Look, it doesn't make sense to spend more money' [then] that's a really negative sign...but, instead, they're investing more in content all over the world," Greenfield explained. The company is "actually very confident in the next several years. It's Wall Street that has no confidence in that and is just worried that this growth story."

Bank of America agreed that content spending will remain a focus point in the space, warning that "sub-scale providers will struggle to keep up with the dramatic increases in content spending and will ultimately need to find additional partners to reach the scale required to compete on a global scale."

","source":"yahoofinance","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; Competitors \"are spending far, far less than Netflix.\"Greenfield argued investors should breathe a sigh of relief knowing that the streamer is continuing to spend billions of dollars on content around the globe.\"If Netflix was telling you, 'Look, it doesn't make sense to spend more money' [then] that's a really negative sign...but, instead, they're investing more in content all over the world,\" Greenfield explained. The company is \"actually very confident in the next several years. It's Wall Street that has no confidence in that and is just worried that this growth story.\"Bank of America agreed that content spending will remain a focus point in the space, warning that \"sub-scale providers will struggle to keep up with the dramatic increases in content spending and will ultimately need to find additional partners to reach the scale required to compete on a global scale.\"","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":604,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":630685843,"gmtCreate":1642817063206,"gmtModify":1642817063608,"author":{"id":"3572481853543196","authorId":"3572481853543196","name":"TVL","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/b030a10064fce0ae4c43082ef16349cb","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Alibaba(BABA)$ when want to come back? ,"news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":565,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":697669537,"gmtCreate":1642461145848,"gmtModify":1642461147498,"author":{"id":"3572481853543196","authorId":"3572481853543196","name":"TVL","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/b030a10064fce0ae4c43082ef16349cb","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Good","listText":"Good","text":"Good","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/697669537","repostId":"1165741451","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1165741451","pubTimestamp":1642460908,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1165741451?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2022-01-18 It no longer offers partners guaranteed revenue though.Revenue plummeted during the fiscal year ended in March 2021, but Oyo made progress toward profitability. It lost 39.3 billion rupees for the fiscal year, down from 128 billion rupees the year before, according to documents filed to the stock market regulator.Oyo filed its initial documents on the last day of September and has since discussed a series of questions with the Securities & Exchange Board of India, including a legal tussle with Zostel Hospitality Pvt.The IPO will consist mainly of primary shares, or those sold by the company, and a smaller portion of secondary stock. SoftBank, which holds about 47% of the equity, aims to sell a small percentage of shares. Agarwal, who holds about a third of the stock, does not plan to part with shares.Existing investors Sequoia Capital, Lightspeed Ventures and Greenoaks Capital Management also do not intend to sell shares.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":529,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":697669210,"gmtCreate":1642461120758,"gmtModify":1642461122374,"author":{"id":"3572481853543196","authorId":"3572481853543196","name":"TVL","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/b030a10064fce0ae4c43082ef16349cb","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Tiger Brokers(TIGR)$ when is coming back? Now the entity that is making its debut on the New York Stock Exchange has undergone a refresh under Chief Executive Sandeep Mathrani. It has closed locations, renegotiated leases and cut thousands of jobs to reduce expenses during the Covid-19 pandemic.
\n
The deal with BowX Acquisition earlier this year gave WeWork a roughly $8 billion equity value. The combination provides WeWork with cash proceeds of about $1.3 billion, the companies said.
\n
Shares will start trading Thursday under the name WeWork Inc. and the ticker symbol WE. On Wednesday, BowX Acquisition’s shares closed at $10.38, up 10.8%.
\n
Founded in 2010, WeWork is a player in the market for flexible office space. It signs long-term leases with landlords, and after renovating a space and furnishing it, the company subleases small offices or even whole buildings to tenants for as little as a month at a time.
\n
The company had a $47 billion valuation in the lead-up to its IPO, but its attempt to tap the public markets in 2019 failed when investors rejected the money-losing company. Its visionary yet erratic leader, Adam Neumann, subsequently resigned as chief executive, telling staff in an email at the time that “too much focus has been placed on me.”
\n
SoftBank Group Corp., the Japanese technology investor that has poured money into WeWork, rescued the company after the failed IPO endeavor. It continues to hold a majority stake in WeWork after the SPAC deal. Mr. Neumann will have voting power of about 11% after the business combination, according to a securities filing.
\n
In 2019, WeWork said that its mission was to “elevate the world’s consciousness” and that it could reduce costs by 66% compared with a standard lease. In its latest attempt to enter the public markets, WeWork released a slideshow for investors that included case studies of how companies could shave real-estate costs by around 25% per employee by switching to WeWork.
\n
Ahead of the public-market debut, Mr. Mathrani marketed the company’s offering as so-called space as a service. “As companies around the world re-imagine their workplace, WeWork is uniquely positioned to offer the space and services that can power solutions built around flexibility,” he said Wednesday.
\n
The Covid-19 pandemic struck just as WeWork was trying to rebound from its troubles in late 2019, posing a challenge for a company whose shared offices had workers in proximity. The company in August posted a net loss attributable to the company of $888.8 million for the three months ended June 30, compared with a loss of $863.8 million a year earlier.
\n
In a securities filing, WeWork said its occupancy rate fell to 55% as of June 1 from 58% the same time last year because of a decline in demand primarily driven by the effects of Covid-19.
\n
Mr. Mathrani and Executive Chairman Marcelo Claure, who is also the chief operating officer of SoftBank Group, will continue to be at the helm of WeWork as it goes public, the company said Wednesday.
\n
SPACs, also known as blank-check companies because they raise money with the purpose of seeking a target to merge with and take public, have risen in popularity as companies seek alternatives to a traditional IPO. Such ventures typically have two years to find a target. Share prices for listed SPACs have retreated this year, leaving many blank-check companies trading below their debut prices.
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
WeWork Set to Go Public via SPAC Deal, Two Years After Failed IPO
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nWeWork Set to Go Public via SPAC Deal, Two Years After Failed IPO\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-10-21 17:46 GMT+8 Wall Street Journal\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
The shared-office company WeWork is set to trade publicly Thursday, capping a journey to a listing that included the implosion of its initial public offering in 2019.\nWeWork is going public through a ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"BOWXU":"BowX Acquisition"},"source_url":"https://www.wsj.com/articles/wework-set-to-go-public-via-spac-deal-two-years-after-failed-ipo-11634808600?siteid=yhoof2","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"1180611610","content_text":"The shared-office company WeWork is set to trade publicly Thursday, capping a journey to a listing that included the implosion of its initial public offering in 2019.\nWeWork is going public through a combination with BowX Acquisition Corp., a special-purpose acquisition company.\nIn 2019, WeWork’s IPO fell apart as the company faced questions about its corporate governance and how much it was worth. Its visionary yet erratic leader, Adam Neumann, subsequently resigned as chief executive, telling staff in an email at the time that “too much focus has been placed on me.”\nSoftBank Group Corp., the Japanese technology investor that has poured money into WeWork, rescued the company after the failed IPO endeavor. It continues to hold a majority stake in WeWork after the SPAC deal. Mr. Neumann will have voting power of about 11% after the business combination, according to a securities filing.\nIn 2019, WeWork said that its mission was to “elevate the world’s consciousness” and that it could reduce costs by 66% compared with a standard lease. In its latest attempt to enter the public markets, WeWork released a slideshow for investors that included case studies of how companies could shave real-estate costs by around 25% per employee by switching to WeWork.\nAhead of the public-market debut, Mr. Mathrani marketed the company’s offering as so-called space as a service. “As companies around the world re-imagine their workplace, WeWork is uniquely positioned to offer the space and services that can power solutions built around flexibility,” he said Wednesday.\nThe Covid-19 pandemic struck just as WeWork was trying to rebound from its troubles in late 2019, posing a challenge for a company whose shared offices had workers in proximity. The company in August posted a net loss attributable to the company of $888.8 million for the three months ended June 30, compared with a loss of $863.8 million a year earlier.\nIn a securities filing, WeWork said its occupancy rate fell to 55% as of June 1 from 58% the same time last year because of a decline in demand primarily driven by the effects of Covid-19.\nMr. Mathrani and Executive Chairman Marcelo Claure, who is also the chief operating officer of SoftBank Group, will continue to be at the helm of WeWork as it goes public, the company said Wednesday.\nSPACs, also known as blank-check companies because they raise money with the purpose of seeking a target to merge with and take public, have risen in popularity as companies seek alternatives to a traditional IPO. Such ventures typically have two years to find a target. Share prices for listed SPACs have retreated this year, leaving many blank-check companies trading below their debut prices.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":10,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":861803659,"gmtCreate":1632477049671,"gmtModify":1632720052873,"author":{"id":"3572481853543196","authorId":"3572481853543196","name":"TVL","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/b030a10064fce0ae4c43082ef16349cb","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Tiger Brokers(TIGR)$ very pity","listText":"$Tiger Brokers(TIGR)$ very pity","text":"$Tiger Brokers(TIGR)$ very pity","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/3a4f51daec422418dc1553b4677718b5","width":"1080","height":"1920"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":7,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/861803659","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":0,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":346411645,"gmtCreate":1618101746487,"gmtModify":1634294930108,"author":{"id":"3572481853543196","authorId":"3572481853543196","name":"TVL","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/b030a10064fce0ae4c43082ef16349cb","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0},"themes":[],"htmlText":"[得意] ","listText":"[得意] ","text":"[得意]","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/346411645","repostId":"2126315033","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2126315033","pubTimestamp":1617981660,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/2126315033?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-04-09 23:21","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Netflix Grabs Sony's Pay-TV Movie Deal From Starz","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2126315033","media":"Anders Bylund","summary":"Most Hollywood studios have started their own streaming services to compete in the evolving media market.
