The building would be the first \"technology\" firm to locate at the park, which opened more than a decade ago with plans to attract technology manufacturing. Currently there are only retail businesses and doctors offices at the park.</p>\n<p>Plug Power makes fuel cells branded under the GenDrive name that run on hydrogen and are currently used by companies like Walmart and Amazon for forklift trucks used in their warehouses.</p>\n<p>However, the company has set its sights on expanding into other markets for road vehicles like delivery trucks and even airplanes and has been building its own hydrogen production plants that make so-called green hydrogen made from water using renewable energy sources.</p>\n<p>The Slingerlands complex, which would make GenDrive fuel cells, would employ 670 people, about 360 of whom would relocate from the company's current headquarters and GenDrive assembly plant on Albany Shaker Road in Latham.</p>\n<p>While Plug's headquarters would not move from Latham, moving its GenDrive manufacturing to Slingerlands would allow Plug Power to expand its GenDrive manufacturing capacity, which is constrained by the current Latham location. The move would also allow Plug Power to use the freed-up space in Latham for another one of its business units.</p>\n<p>\"They're operating at 100 percent of their (manufacturing) capacity in Latham,\" Brandon Stabler, a Columbia Development executive who spoke at the virtual meeting said of Plug Power. \"Our hope is that we can break ground in the middle of February of 2022.\"</p>\n<p>Columbia Development wants to complete the first building by the end of July and finish the two other buildings, all of which will be connected, by the end of 2022.</p>\n<p>A Bethlehem Planning Board member called the project timeline \"really aggressive.\"</p>\n<p>In addition to making fuel cells, Plug Power is building new facilities across the country and abroad to make green hydrogen.</p>\n<p>The Slingerlands complex will have 600 parking spaces for employees who will work in shifts and 26 loading docks for delivery trucks.</p>\n<p>Plug Power is one of the leading fuel cell companies in the U.S. and is the biggest consumer of hydrogen in North America. Although the company has yet to turn a profit as its spends money on its expansion, it has $3 billion in cash to spend and is projecting nearly $1 billion in revenue by next year.</p>\n<p>Hydrogen-powered fuel cells are an extremely popular type of power source for vehicles as the world seeks to reduce the use of fossil fuels in vehicles, which release greenhouse gases known to cause climate change.</p>\n<p>Plug Power shipped 4,559 GenDrive fuel cells to customers during the third quarter of 2021.</p>\n<p>Hydrogen fuel cells only emit water vapor and hot air, making them an ideal replacement for engines that run on oil or gas. The biggest hurdle is the lack hydrogen infrastructure, which is why Plug Power has also focused on building green hydrogen plants that make hydrogen from water.</p>\n<p>Today, most hydrogen is made from methane, a fossil fuel. A brand new model, to be delivered in 2022, was announced. And the technology NIO is packing into its cars is something to behold. There are even augmented reality glasses—like something out of an Avengers movie.</p>\n<p>The new vehicle is the ET5 midsize sedan. It’s a higher-end model starting at about $50,000. With NIO’s battery as a service subscription, the initial purchase price is about $40,000. NIO will let car buyers pay a monthly fee, essentially, separating the battery purchase from the car purchase.</p>\n<p>The new sedan comes with roughly 500 horsepower and will go zero to 60 miles an hour in about 4 seconds. It should be able to drive up to 430 miles per charge, a big number although Chinese and U.S. range statistics are reported differently.</p>\n<p>The ET5 is also equipped with advanced safety features including lidar sensors.</p>\n<p>Lidar is essentially laser-based radar and most auto makers believe lidar is one of the technologies required to achieve truly self-driving technology. The ET5 also comes equipped with the company’s latest self-driving software. NIO Autonomous Driving or NAD, as the company calls it, will maintain driving speeds and do some steering, but drivers still need to pay attention to the road at all times.</p>\n<p>All the software for self-driving—and the software running other car systems—runs on a computer powered by Nvidia (NVDA) chips.</p>\n<p>Then there are the glasses. NIO unveiled augmented reality glasses that are integrated with the car. “The visual experience is as good as a 201-inch screen at 6 meters away,” said NIO founder William Li. The glasses can display vehicle information. Drivers won’t have to look down to check speed. The glasses drew applause from the assembled crowd.</p>\n<p>NIO plans to deliver the ET5 by September 2022. The company also provided an update about its new ET7 sedan. Deliveries of that model should begin in March 2022. The ET7 was unveiled at the company’s last big event in January 2021.</p>\n<p>NIO stock jumped 6.5% to more than $60 a share the Monday following that January event—and it could use another bump now. NIO stock has fallen 22% over the last month to $30. The S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average are down about 2% and 1% over the same span. NIO’s third-quarter earnings were fine. A brand new model, to be delivered in 2022, was announced. And the technology NIO is packing into its cars is something to behold. There are even augmented reality glasses—like something out of an Avengers movie.\nThe new vehicle is the ET5 midsize sedan. It’s a higher-end model starting at about $50,000. With NIO’s battery as a service subscription, the initial purchase price is about $40,000. NIO will let car buyers pay a monthly fee, essentially, separating the battery purchase from the car purchase.\nThe new sedan comes with roughly 500 horsepower and will go zero to 60 miles an hour in about 4 seconds. It should be able to drive up to 430 miles per charge, a big number although Chinese and U.S. range statistics are reported differently.\nThe ET5 is also equipped with advanced safety features including lidar sensors.\nLidar is essentially laser-based radar and most auto makers believe lidar is one of the technologies required to achieve truly self-driving technology. The ET5 also comes equipped with the company’s latest self-driving software. NIO Autonomous Driving or NAD, as the company calls it, will maintain driving speeds and do some steering, but drivers still need to pay attention to the road at all times.\nAll the software for self-driving—and the software running other car systems—runs on a computer powered by Nvidia (NVDA) chips.\nThen there are the glasses. NIO unveiled augmented reality glasses that are integrated with the car. “The visual experience is as good as a 201-inch screen at 6 meters away,” said NIO founder William Li. The glasses can display vehicle information. Drivers won’t have to look down to check speed. The glasses drew applause from the assembled crowd.\nNIO plans to deliver the ET5 by September 2022. The company also provided an update about its new ET7 sedan. Deliveries of that model should begin in March 2022. The ET7 was unveiled at the company’s last big event in January 2021.\nNIO stock jumped 6.5% to more than $60 a share the Monday following that January event—and it could use another bump now. NIO stock has fallen 22% over the last month to $30. The S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average are down about 2% and 1% over the same span. NIO’s third-quarter earnings were fine.
