American depositary shares of Chinese EV maker Nio(NYSE:NIO)hit their lowest level in over a year, the shares are jumping today. And the stocks of EV-charging network company EVgo(NASDAQ:EVGO)and vehicle electrification company XL Fleet(NYSE:XL)are also on the rise. The stocks had moved as follows as today:

Nio shares up 14.76%

EVgo shares up 9.08%

XL Fleet shares up 7.9%

So what

The thing is, these stocks have very little in common, other than the glaring fact that they all are in the electric vehicle sector. And that tells the story of today's big moves. Though these businesses have not exactly been moving in the same direction, the stock prices have. They are all down significantly in 2021. XL Fleet shares have dropped 59% year to date, while EVgo and Nio stocks are down 37% and 35%, respectively. But the businesses aren't quite as synchronized. Nio's sales are growing quickly, and it announced some exciting plans for next year, including the introduction of its latest EV that it hopes will challenge the Tesla Model 3.

Nio told investors it expects to begin deliveries of the new ET5 in the fourth quarter of 2022.

Now what

Nio is clearly the largest of these stocks, and likely the closest to profitability. With today's move, Nio has a market capitalization of about $52 billion. Compare that to EVgo's valuation of $2.7 billion and XL Fleet at just over $500 million. There's a good reason for that, too.

In addition to Nio's new ET5 coming late next year, it will begin selling its new, larger luxury sedan in March 2022. And beyond the ET5 and larger ET7, Nio has said it plans a third new offering next year. That may come from a collaboration with the largest automotive company in China, but it has yet to be officially announced.

Nio is also continuing to move outside of China as it expands the growth it began in Europe in 2021. EVgo and XL Fleet also have plans to grow, but the results are coming much slower than with Nio. XL Fleet, for example, saw its third-quarter revenue nearly cut in half compared to the third quarter of 2020. XL Fleet converts internal combustion-powered vehicles to plug-in hybrid electric power. It also plans to have a fully electrical conversion solution soon. But as auto manufacturers have struggled to keep up with demand amid supply chain constraints this year, the company hasn't been able to drive the growth it had hoped for.

However, XL Fleet recently announced it has grown its relationship with utility-scale wind and solar power facilities operators for charging infrastructure to support the fleet vehicles it has already provided. It is also in a pilot program with the Department of Defense that it hopes could grow into a large opportunity.

So while Nio and EVgo are growing as EV demand and adoption grows, XL Fleet is struggling at this point. That partially explains the vast disparity in the valuations assigned by investors. But for today, they are all being lumped in the same boat as investors are pushing EV sector names higher moving into the final trading day of the year.

","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Why Nio, EVgo, and XL Fleet Stocks Jumped Today
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nWhy Nio, EVgo, and XL Fleet Stocks Jumped Today\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-12-31 10:07 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
What happenedOne day after the American depositary shares of Chinese EV maker Nio(NYSE:NIO)hit their lowest level in over a year, the shares are jumping today. Among the most pressing problems for this blue-chip stock is a lost technical lead, and addressing this problem will be critical if the company wants to succeed in the metaverse.

However, rivals in the chip industry like Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA) and Advanced Micro Devices (NASDAQ:AMD) have received more attention from metaverse investors. Now, with its new strategy enacted, investors will have to determine whether the metaverse can help Intel stage a revival.

Intel and the metaverse

Like its peers in the chip industry, Intel has taken a deep interest in the metaverse. It outlined a strategy at the RealTime conference on metaverse technologies. Raja Koduri, senior vice president and general manager of Intel's accelerated computing systems and graphics group, stated that computing capabilities would have to rise by "several orders of magnitude" to deliver that computing power at the low latencies required for this environment.

To this end, the company plans to build on its Core, Xeon, and edge processors to promote this environment. The new X architecture, which will include its Arc Alchemist GPU, will further bolster these capabilities.

Challenges remain

Nonetheless, to succeed in the metaverse, management will have to address the red flags for Intel's future. Nvidia's focus on AI and longtime dominance in the GPU market give it natural advantages with the graphics aspects of the metaverse.

Additionally, the metaverse will depend heavily on data centers. Revenue in Intel's data center group (DCG) rose 10% in Q3 compared with the same quarter in 2020. However, Omdia recently reported that AMD earned a record market share in the data center market in September, indicating Intel could struggle in this part of the metaverse as well.

Moreover, even with Gelsinger's moves to improve Intel's technology, product development cycles in the chip industry tend to take between three and five years. Thus, the prospect of whether Intel can stage a comeback remains speculative at this stage.

Still, a comeback is not out of the question. Intel had led the industry technologically for decades, and it continues to generate more revenue than AMD and Nvidia combined. Nonetheless, investors have so far shown little confidence that Intel can come back in this area.

Intel's financials offer little help (at least for now)

Additionally, current financials offer little good news to Intel bulls. In the first nine months of 2021, revenue of just over $58 billion rose by just 1% compared with the same period in 2020. Also, net income during the first three quarters of 2021 climbed by about the same rate to just over $15 billion. Income from gains in equity investments and a lower tax expense helped offset almost a nearly $4 billion increase in operating expenses.

Furthermore, full-year 2021 forecasts call for flat to modestly lower revenue compared with 2020. This may help explain why the stock price has risen by about 10% over the last 12 months, well under the S&P 500 total return of 31% during that time frame. Additionally, Intel has long failed to achieve any kind of valuation premium. Its price-to-earnings ratio stands at about 10, well below AMD's 46 earnings multiple and Nvidia's 92 P/E ratio.

Can the metaverse invigorate Intel stock?

Determining whether the metaverse can help Intel stage a comeback will take time. Now, with its new strategy enacted, investors will have to determine whether the metaverse can help Intel stage a revival.Image source: Getty Images.Intel and the metaverseLike its peers in the chip industry, Intel has taken a deep interest in the metaverse. It outlined a strategy at the RealTime conference on metaverse technologies. Raja Koduri, senior vice president and general manager of Intel's accelerated computing systems and graphics group, stated that computing capabilities would have to rise by \"several orders of magnitude\" to deliver that computing power at the low latencies required for this environment. To this end, the company plans to build on its Core, Xeon, and edge processors to promote this environment. The new X architecture, which will include its Arc Alchemist GPU, will further bolster these capabilities.Challenges remainNonetheless, to succeed in the metaverse, management will have to address the red flags for Intel's future. Nvidia's focus on AI and longtime dominance in the GPU market give it natural advantages with the graphics aspects of the metaverse.Additionally, the metaverse will depend heavily on data centers. Thus, the prospect of whether Intel can stage a comeback remains speculative at this stage.Still, a comeback is not out of the question. Intel had led the industry technologically for decades, and it continues to generate more revenue than AMD and Nvidia combined. Nonetheless, investors have so far shown little confidence that Intel can come back in this area.Intel's financials offer little help (at least for now)Additionally, current financials offer little good news to Intel bulls. In the first nine months of 2021, revenue of just over $58 billion rose by just 1% compared with the same period in 2020. Also, net income during the first three quarters of 2021 climbed by about the same rate to just over $15 billion. Income from gains in equity investments and a lower tax expense helped offset almost a nearly $4 billion increase in operating expenses.Furthermore, full-year 2021 forecasts call for flat to modestly lower revenue compared with 2020. Can the metaverse invigorate Intel stock?Determining whether the metaverse can help Intel stage a comeback will take time. Despite Intel's leadership actively working to reinvigorate the company, Intel's financials and stock price remain sluggish. Nonetheless, product cycles in its industry take years to play out. Moreover, the fact that AMD and Nvidia surged to a technical lead shows that the competitive battle remains ongoing. In the end, nobody knows how Intel will perform in the metaverse. Even with its pullback in recent days, the broad market index has gained nearly 30% this year, more than double its long-term historical average.
\n
Yet that just means we're another day closer to the inevitable market correction. Just as night follows day, a stock market crash is inevitable because market declines are a natural part of the normal business and investment cycle. No one can forecast exactly when it will strike, but smart investors realize it's best to prepare for the eventuality.
\n
For as long as people have been investing, stretching even as far back to the Dutch tulip mania in the 1600s, busts have followed booms. And what a boom we've enjoyed! Since the bottom of the Great Recession, the S&P 500 has quadrupled in value.
\n
2020's pandemic-driven 34% drop in the stock indexes within the span of just a few weeks was the worst on record. But savvy investors don't have to worry. These events are not a problem when you're invested in the right companies. Being prepared for the worst and hoping for the best means when the next stock market crash or correction occurs, you'll want to have your money invested in stocks that will help lead the way forward. Here are two tech stocks you'll want to buy.
\n
1. Apple
\n
The burden that inflation is imposing on consumers also poses a threat to some of the biggest, best-run businesses, like Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL), which is currently benefiting from the smartphone upgrade cycle and the rollout of 5G network infrastructure. Any attempt by the Federal Reserve to raise interest rates to contain runaway inflation could cause an economic slowdown by making money more expensive to borrow. Stock valuations would also turn lower.
\n
That's not necessarily bad news for investors who might find Apple's $2.8 trillion valuation a bit rich to buy into at the moment. The stock trades at 30 times trailing earnings, or about double its typical multiple. A correction would bring Apple back into the realm of the attainable, even as its business continues jogging forward.
\n
Sales of the iPhone 13 are outpacing those of the iPhone 12 at the same time, but Apple reportedly warned suppliers that demand is waning as the calendar year progresses. It's not necessarily for a lack of consumer desire, but rather the global supply chain constraints that have made it difficult to find the product. Apple previously cut its iPhone production target by 10 million units from its original goal of 90 million.
\n
Analysts think many consumers may choose to forgo the iPhone 13 and wait for the next upgrade. Coupled with a market crash, that could put Apple stock at a very attractive entry point with pent-up demand for the next iteration of the iPhone.
\n
2. Amazon
\n
Few companies are as essential to the working of the U.S. economy as Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN). It will account for 41.4% of all online spending in the U.S. this year, according to eMarketer estimates. At the same time, Amazon Web Services (AWS), its cloud infrastructure business, is on track to generate over $60 billion in annual revenue in 2021 based on its year-to-date performance. The company is responsible for thousands of web-based businesses and the federal government's ability to remain online, making Amazon crucial to a well-functioning economy.
\n
That won't change if the stock market collapses. Its share of U.S. retail e-commerce sales will be more than 50% larger than the shares of the next nine e-commerce companies combined. Amazon's piece of the online market is nearly six times more than Walmart's second-place share at just 7.2%, and 10 times greater than third-place eBay. E-commerce data tracker Edge by Ascential expects Amazon will see $26.7 billion just in online grocery sales five from now years, or nearly double its current amount.
\n
Amid rising prices and supply chain woes, Amazon has become a lifeline for many, and that will continue long after any financial restructuring. The stock gained 76% during the first year of the pandemic and took a breather during the reopening of the economy. Amazon shares have been relatively flat all year long. Here is why.
\n
Amazon is certainly best known for its e-commerce and cloud infrastructure businesses. But the company has been making inroads into the streaming space for the past several years, standing out as a key player in audio and video.
\n
Today, the Amazon Maven looks at how Wells Fargo’s research team sees the sector, and what role Amazon may play in streaming going forward. We also explain why the bank’s view of the industry could be bullish for Amazon stock.
\n
Figure 1: Prime Video logo.
\n
Amazon: winner in bull and bear cases
\n
Wells Fargo has recently made a few interesting observations about the streaming space. The bank played “good cop, bad cop” and presented both the bull and bear cases for the industry.
\n
Optimists at the research shop see “a market evolution that creates far more consumer dollars for video, just as the U.S. channel universe expanded through cable in the 1990s and [culminated] in a TAM expansion of sevenfold over about 30 years”.
\n
This is a typical scenario of a growing pie, probably at the expense of traditional media (think of the cord cutting phenomenon, for example). It is not hard to see how Amazon would benefit from this market dynamic, as the rising tides should lift all boats.
\n
But here’s the twist: even if the best-case scenario for the streaming industry does not materialize, Amazon can still benefit. This seems to be Wells Fargo’s opinion, expressed in this quote:
\n
\n “The bear case sees more of a winner-take-most situation. [...] Internet and mobile-based industries tend to favor first movers, who become incumbents and are well capitalized to grow market share. [...] That case sets up well for Netflix [...], Apple and Amazon.”\n
\n
The argument here is that, should the streaming pie fail to grow as many expect, “the big wigs” in tech and media are likely to push smaller players out. Amazon already has the brand recognition (although maybe less so in streaming) and the cash pile to win the content wars and come out of the inevitable industry consolidation phase as a top player.
\n
Figure 2: US video streaming market share (Q2 2021).
\n
Does it matter for AMZN stock?
\n
Of course, a separate question is whether being a winner in the streaming space is something that could even benefit Amazon stock and its investors directly. Here is why.\nAmazon is certainly best known for its e-commerce and cloud infrastructure businesses. But the company has been making inroads into the streaming space for the past several years, standing out as a key player in audio and video.\nToday, the Amazon Maven looks at how Wells Fargo’s research team sees the sector, and what role Amazon may play in streaming going forward. We also explain why the bank’s view of the industry could be bullish for Amazon stock.\nFigure 1: Prime Video logo.\nAmazon: winner in bull and bear cases\nWells Fargo has recently made a few interesting observations about the streaming space. The bank played “good cop, bad cop” and presented both the bull and bear cases for the industry.\nOptimists at the research shop see “a market evolution that creates far more consumer dollars for video, just as the U.S. channel universe expanded through cable in the 1990s and [culminated] in a TAM expansion of sevenfold over about 30 years”.\nThis is a typical scenario of a growing pie, probably at the expense of traditional media (think of the cord cutting phenomenon, for example). It is not hard to see how Amazon would benefit from this market dynamic, as the rising tides should lift all boats.\nBut here’s the twist: even if the best-case scenario for the streaming industry does not materialize, Amazon can still benefit. This seems to be Wells Fargo’s opinion, expressed in this quote:\n\n “The bear case sees more of a winner-take-most situation. [...] Internet and mobile-based industries tend to favor first movers, who become incumbents and are well capitalized to grow market share. [...] That case sets up well for Netflix [...], Apple and Amazon.”\n\nThe argument here is that, should the streaming pie fail to grow as many expect, “the big wigs” in tech and media are likely to push smaller players out. Amazon already has the brand recognition (although maybe less so in streaming) and the cash pile to win the content wars and come out of the inevitable industry consolidation phase as a top player.\nFigure 2: US video streaming market share (Q2 2021).\nDoes it matter for AMZN stock?\nOf course, a separate question is whether being a winner in the streaming space is something that could even benefit Amazon stock and its investors directly. From a P&L perspective, it is a stretch to think that the Prime family of streaming services can put much of a dent on the bottom line, considering the high content costs.\nBut as we explained a few months ago, streaming can be the hook that incentivizes consumers to sign up for Prime service — and this is good for Amazon’s much larger e-commerce division. Think of former CEO Jeff Bezos’ quote: “when we win a Golden Globe, it helps us to sell more shoes”.\nSo, one indirect (but arguably more meaningful) way to measure the success of Amazon’s efforts in streaming is to look at the company’s Prime user base. It has been growing at a very healthy pace of double since 2018, to 200 million, which is good news for AMZN bulls.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":695,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":693547637,"gmtCreate":1640053917290,"gmtModify":1640054462325,"author":{"id":"3553680669291881","authorId":"3553680669291881","name":"maOQiu","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":6,"crmLevelSwitch":0},"themes":[],"htmlText":"To the moon","listText":"To the moon","text":"To the moon","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/693547637","repostId":"1129749044","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1129749044","pubTimestamp":1640052616,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1129749044?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-12-21 10:10","market":"us","language":"en","title":"PLTR Stock Alert: 5 Things to Know About Palantir’s Latest Partnership","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1129749044","media":"InvestorPlace","summary":"Despite announcing a new multi-year partnership with Dewpoint Therapeutics, shares of Palantir Techn","content":"
Despite announcing a new multi-year partnership with Dewpoint Therapeutics, shares of Palantir Technologies(NYSE:PLTR) are down more than 4% on the day. Before the holiday break,Nike and Micron Technology report on Monday,BlackBerry and General Mills on Tuesday, and CarMax,Cintas, and Paychex on Wednesday.\nIt will be a busy week of economic data releases. On Monday, the Conference Board publishes its Leading Economic Index for November, followed by its Consumer Confidence Index for December on Wednesday.\nOn Thursday, the Bureau of Economic Analysis reports personal income and consumption expenditures for November. Consumer earnings are forecast to have risen 0.6% while spending is seen climbing 0.5%. Jobless claims have averaged 225,667 a week in November and December, and have finally reached prepandemic levels.\nThe Census Bureau reports new-home sales for November. Consensus estimate is for a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 770,000 new single-family houses sold, 25,000 more than in October. The median sales price of new houses sold in October was $407,700, while the average sales price was $477,800—both record highs.\nThe BEA reports personal income and consumption expenditures for November. (AAPL) - the world's most valuable company and symbol of American capitalism - has become the subject of a speculative bubble. Apple's price is now far higher than its business fundamentals justify without resorting to overly optimistic projections of the future. Apple turned in a so-so earnings report in October, after which the stock surged to all-time highs. Additionally, this is only anecdotal, but the local Apple stores here in Texas haven't been quite as busy as I would expect before Christmas.
\n

\n
Some observers have linked the surge in Apple to speculators buying short-dated call options in the stock, a behavior more commonly seen in meme stocks like GameStop (GME) and AMC Entertainment (AMC). This would make sense because the recent $500 billion surge in market cap doesn't when based on the reality on the ground. Apple now trades for over 30x earnings, with the analyst consensus earnings estimates expecting a peak this year or slow growth at best.
\n

\n
Analyst Predictions Are Increasingly Abstract
\n
If the present numbers are so-so, why is Apple stock surging ahead of the profits the company is making? Recent analyst reports seem to love to emphasize the abstract, such as virtual reality, the \"metaverse\", and the prospect of an Apple car.
\n

\n
Virtual reality is interesting, but as someone who has played around with the technology (I walked the plank), it was pretty fun, but it didn't change my life. Having a friend own one is as good as owning one yourself-a key contrast with iPhone. Take Meta (FB), the corporation formerly known as Facebook. Meta has sold about 10 million Oculus VR headsets. The sets start at $300, so I figure that at a 30% margin they made about a billion dollars from it. A billion dollars is a lot of money, but it's a lot less than $2.8 trillion (1/2800th to be exact of Apple's market cap). I would expect Apple to make a play in virtual reality, but I would not expect fireworks here from an earnings perspective.
\n
The metaverse is another curiosity here. Silicon Valley has been crushed by whistleblowers as of late, so what better way to get the attention off of antitrust issues, employment issues, and societal issues than to put your smartest marketing people in a room for a couple of days until they come up with something you can launch a huge PR campaign with? Apple isn't the main driver of social problems coming out of Silicon Valley, but I would not have high expectations for the profit potential of the Metaverse- most of the use cases tossed around seem indistinguishable from using FaceTime.
\n
There's a huge amount of interest in electric cars right now, so the best way to get some hype into a company (besides putting Bitcoin on your corporate balance sheet) is to generate speculation that you might produce an electric car. Apple has ample R&D resources, but to enter the car business for them makes about as much sense to me as starting an Apple Airline. The car business is notorious for being labor and capital-intensive and for having low margins. Apple could simply license a car, but are manufacturers going to be willing to shell out the royalties Apple wants, and is Apple comfortable dealing with potential brand issues if the car ends up having recalls or safety issues? I don't think the car business is a good fit for Apple's expertise in consumer electronics.
\n
Apple's Challenges For 2022 And Beyond
\n
1. Whether earnings estimates are realistic without continued fiscal stimulus is an issue for the whole US economy, but a particularly thorny one for consumer-facing companies like Apple. Apple had its best year ever in 2021 as consumers were flush with cash from government stimulus. All of these concerns aren't specific to Apple, but they do affect the company.
\n

\n
2. The central question for 2022 and beyond is whether Apple's pre-pandemic earnings in the $3 per share range or so are more indicative of long-term demand for Apple products, or whether the $5.67 per share that they earned in 2021 is the new normal. I believe the earnings estimates for the stock market at large are too high for 2022 in the absence of stimulus spending. (i.e., the typical American household made a ballpark of $60,000 post-tax in 2021, but $10,000 of this was directly or indirectly from the stimulus, such as the three rounds of checks, expanded unemployment, the student loan pause, etc.). As it turns out, if you give the typical American family an extra $10,000 to spend that they don't have to work for, statistically, many of these people will upgrade their iPhones. Going forward, consumers will only be able to spend what they actually earn. Apple has positive tailwinds from services revenue, but I don't think they can sustain iPhone sales at anywhere near the level they have achieved in 2021. I'd guess Apple earns somewhere between $4.50 and $5.00 in 2022.
\n

\n
3. Apple cited the supply chain as a challenge in their last quarterly earnings conference call. I think the supply chain will be less of an issue in 2022 than it has been in 2021, but because consumer demand is lower in the face of falling inflation-adjusted wages and no more stimulus. This said, chip shortages will not help Apple's cause, and the longer they go on, the more it caps Apple's upside earnings.
\n

\n
4. Apple's golden goose is services revenue. Increasingly, however, Apple is running up against antitrust laws. We've seen Apple cut App store fees recently under pressure from regulators, and we've seen Apple and Google (GOOG) get scrutiny for the $15 billion or so that Google will pay Apple this year for the right to be the default search engine. Apple makes more from their deal with Google than they likely ever will from the Metaverse. The risk is that regulators in the US or EU end up pushing back on this and cutting off the flow of money here. This deal is worth about 1/6th of Apple's net income for the year, and even more if iPhone sales slow.
\n

\n
5. Apple's earnings per share growth has been driven in large part by buybacks. When Apple traded at a 10-12x PE throughout most of the 2010s, this allowed Apple to get huge returns on shares it bought back. With the PE ratio over 30x now, this strategy is only 1/3rd as effective, and dependent on the business to continue to outperform at levels that are historically very hard to achieve. I'd rather see Apple pay a dividend here.
\n

\n
6. Believe it or not, Apple traded at a discount to the S&P 500 PE ratio for much of the 2010s. Now it trades for a large premium. I generally don't make market calls based on sentiment, but I think a PE ratio closer to the S&P 500 at large (20x or so) is more appropriate than a large premium. There's no particular reason the market will enforce this, but that's where I feel is correct based on Apple's underlying business. This would put the stock price around $100, and that's about where I would buy the stock.
\n

\n

\n
Conclusion
\n
Since late 2019, Apple stock has been on an epic bull run. Had this run been fully reflected in the long-run success of the business, this wouldn't be too worrisome. But with Apple's valuation increasingly reaching exuberant levels while concerns about the sustainability of its earnings mount, Apple's stock has the dual problem of having earnings estimates that will be hard to live up to and having a high valuation on top of it. Formerly my largest holding, Apple looks like it's in a bubble here after its November gamma squeeze. Its safe to say there will be twists and turns on Wednesday as Fed Chairman Jerome Powell is widely expected to adopt a more hawkish stance in his postmeeting news conference Wednesday.
\n
On display will be \"the limits of Fed hawkishness,\" said David Kelly, chief global strategist at JPMorgan Funds. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note was well below 1.5%.
\n
Could there be a dovish taper?
\n
Steve Englander, head of North American macro strategy at Standard Chartered Bank, sees the possibility of a dovish taper that ends in mid-April. At the moment, economists expect the Fed to reduce bond purchases by $30 billion a month, rather than the current $15 billion a month pace. Doubling the pace of the taper would end purchases altogether by mid-March. Englander argued that reducing purchases by $25 billion a month would gain the most support. The resulting mid-April end to purchases would be dovish because \"the faster the taper, the faster investors are likely to expect subsequent [rate] hikes,\" said Englander, in a note to clients.
\n
What's the forecast for next year?
\n
Markets will key on what the Fed projects for the economy in 2022, according to Steven Ricchiuto, chief economist at Mizuho Securities USA. The Fed now sees the economy expanding at a 3.8% rate next year, and this could be revised lower. Inflation is forecast to drop to 2.2% in 2022. This should be raised. The Fed's forecast for the unemployment rate -- also at 3.8% -- should hold steady, he said. Ricchiuto said that how much the Fed revises inflation up next year will be key for what the market will discount for rate hikes next year. At the moment, markets are discounting about 2 1/2 rate hikes next year. How these projections are revised \"will lead to a lot of conclusions about whether or not, in the market's mind-set, two [rate hikes] becomes three or three [rate hikes] becomes four.\"
\n
Goodbye 'transitory,' hello...?
\n
Powell has signaled that the Fed is going to delete the word \"transitory.\" How will the Fed describe the inflation outlook? Analysts now expect the Fed to boost the number of rate hikes up to a total of nine over the same period. Here Are 6 Stocks to Consider","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2190567199","media":"Motley Fool","summary":"Here are some obvious, and some not-so-obvious, stocks to bet on China's EV growth story.","content":"
From January to November, 2.5 million electric vehicles (EVs) were sold in China, including plug-in hybrids. That's a year-over-year increase of 178%. In the first half of this year, China accounted for roughly 42% of global EV sales. Global EV sales for 2021 are estimated to be around 6 million units, which means China will likely maintain its lead in EV sales for the year.
\n
With strong governmental support for both EVs and public charging infrastructure, China's future EV growth looks certain. Here are six stocks to bet on this growth narrative.
\n
Tesla
\n
Nearly 25% of Tesla's (NASDAQ:TSLA) revenue for the first nine months of 2021 came from China. In the third quarter, it derived nearly 23% of its revenue from China. According to CleanTechnica, the company controls roughly 10% share -- the third highest -- of China's EV market. Clearly, China is an important market for Tesla.
\n
A major chunk of cars produced at its plant in Shanghai are exported. With a local manufacturing base, Tesla would surely like to expand its sales in China in future. Thus, an investment in Tesla automatically pivots you to China's EV market growth.
\n

\n
\n
General Motors
\n
General Motors (NYSE:GM) sells EVs in China under two joint ventures (JV) -- one with the state-owned SAIC Motor, and another with SAIC Motor and Wuling Automobile. The SAIC-GM-Wuling JV (SGMW) venture controlled roughly 15% of China's EV market between January and October. That's the second highest share of China's EV market.
\n
While that looks big, GM's International segment, which includes earnings from China, contributed less than 5% of General Motors' adjusted earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) for the nine months ended Sept. 30. What's more, less than one-fourth of the sales under the two JVs are electric.
\n
While General Motors' EV sales in China are growing, its competitors are growing faster. In two months, SGMW's market share has fallen roughly 2%. SGMW's HongGuang Mini EV is the top-selling EV model in China. If the company manages to bring new and successful EV models, it could retain its share in the competitive Chinese market.
\n
Investors should note that only a tiny percentage of their investment in General Motors stock is exposed to China's EV market.
\n
BYD
\n
BYD (OTC:BYDDY) controls the highest share, 18%, of China's EV market. The company derives more than half of its revenue from auto and related products. In November, BYD delivered 97,242 vehicles. Of that, 90,121 units were EVs, including plug-in hybrids. Moreover, 46,137 units were full electric. So, the traditional automaker has clearly shifted to EVs.
\n
Apart from vehicles, BYD derives roughly 40% of its revenue from mobile handset components, and roughly 8% from rechargeable batteries and solar products. But the company is witnessing a strong growth in the EV segment, which could form an increasingly higher portion of the company's revenue mix.
\n
BYD stock is trading at a price-to-sales ratio of around 3.6. With a long history of operations and a better price-to-sales multiple than many EV stocks in the market, value-focused investors will find BYD stock attractive.
\n
Nio, Li Auto, and Xpeng
\n
The three Chinese EV makers -- Nio (NYSE:NIO), Li Auto (NASDAQ:LI), and Xpeng (NYSE:XPEV) -- have some things in common. All three are new, pure-play EV companies. All three started at nearly the same time -- in 2014 and 2015. The three companies are primarily targeting the passenger car and SUV market and can potentially give Tesla stiff competition in China, and elsewhere.
\n

\n
NIO Revenue (Quarterly) data by YCharts
\n
As the above graph shows, Nio generates the highest revenue among the three, but Li Auto and Xpeng have been growing revenue at a higher rate than Nio lately. Even so, all three companies are growing their revenue at impressive quarterly year-over-year growth rates of more than 100%.
\n
The three companies face stiff competition from established players, including Tesla, General Motors, and BYD, as well as several other players in the EV space. But all three companies look promising, have already sold several thousand vehicles, and are growing sales rapidly.
\n
All in all, Nio, Xpeng, and Li Auto offer a more explicit way to invest in China's EV market. However, investors must consider their appetite for the risks of investing in international stocks before starting a position.
","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Want to Bet on China's EV Growth? We currently expect shipments outside of North America to begin in the second half of 2022.\n\nThis means that Europe would be without Model S and Model X for a year and a half.\nHere’s the email in full:\n\n Hello [redacted],\n\n\n We are contacting you regarding the timing of your Model X order. As we expand production capacity, the launch dates for markets outside of North America have been postponed. We will inform you of the delivery times through your Tesla account when production begins.\n\n\n Your Model X is getting closer to delivery. We currently expect shipments outside of North America to begin in the second half of 2022.\n\n\n In order to expedite the delivery of existing orders, including your Model X order, as much as possible, we are currently no longer accepting new orders for the Model S and Model X from markets outside of North America.\n\n\n The price of your Model X will continue to be the same as it was when you placed your order, unless your vehicle configuration has been changed. To apply your order fee to another model, or to receive a full refund, request a call to speak directly to a Tesla representative.\n\n\n We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.\n\n\n Kind regards,\n\n\n Your Tesla Team Testa","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":196,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":602766228,"gmtCreate":1639071135811,"gmtModify":1639071135964,"author":{"id":"3553680669291881","authorId":"3553680669291881","name":"maOQiu","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":6,"crmLevelSwitch":0},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Wow","listText":"Wow","text":"Wow","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/602766228","repostId":"1165217477","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1165217477","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Providing stock market headlines, business news, financials and earnings ","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Tiger Newspress","id":"1079075236","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8274c5b9d4c2852bfb1c4d6ce16c68ba"},"pubTimestamp":1639067136,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1165217477?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-12-10 00:25","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Grab and Lucid stocks plunged more than 10%","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1165217477","media":"Tiger Newspress","summary":"Grab and Lucid stocks plunged more than 10% in Thursday's trading.","content":"
Grab and Lucid stocks plunged more than 10% in Thursday's trading.
\n

","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html;
