Let's dive deeper:</p>\n<h2>Whole-person care is the new healthcare</h2>\n<p>The traditional healthcare system is very fragmented. Patients see an average of 19 doctors over their lifetime, and each new doctor often means a new practice, a new relationship with a care provider, and varying medical records.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/f362ef0d223dfdddfad2dc7d9316a096\" tg-width=\"700\" tg-height=\"466\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"><span>Image Source: Getty Images.</span></p>\n<p>All of this can make the care we receive an inconsistent experience, leaving patients unsatisfied and health ailments unresolved, potentially causing more harm. Teladoc has spent years acquiring and developing the assets to build Primary360, the front door to what it calls \"whole-person care.\"</p>\n<p>The concept of whole-person care brings primary healthcare, mental health, and treatment for chronic conditions together in a virtual package that patients can access from their phones. Teladoc has the technology to use data and analytics to create a more personalized healthcare experience due to its 2020 acquisition of Livongo for $18.5 billion in cash and stock.</p>\n<h2>A new reality?</h2>\n<p>Teladoc was <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE.U\">one</a> of those ideal \"COVID stocks\" as lockdowns and avoiding face-to-face visits for fear of getting sick drove a significant increase in telehealth usage. The company saw revenue growth accelerate from around 20% before COVID to triple digits during the pandemic.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/680d2261d92893b1cb00307f63a567cc\" tg-width=\"720\" tg-height=\"449\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"><span>TDOC Revenue (Quarterly YOY Growth) data by YCharts</span></p>\n<p>Revenue growth has started to decelerate, in part because of the difficult year-over-year comparisons. Investors could be worried that a post-lockdown world will see the company's revenue growth slow to pre-pandemic levels, but is this likely?</p>\n<p>Teladoc's Primary360 system could be the key to growth beyond the pandemic, but COVID seems to be helping the company in the near term. The omicron variant is the latest and most contagious mutation of the virus. Initial studies show that vaccinations are less effective against the omicron variant with efficacy against infection as low as 30%.</p>\n<p>While we might not experience lockdowns to the extent that we did in 2020, we still might see continued adoption of virtual services to protect vulnerable people from exposure. This could drive the near-term telehealth business and speed up adoption of virtual healthcare systems like Primary360.</p>\n<h2>Years of growth ahead</h2>\n<p>Teladoc may benefit from these circumstances in 2022. Still, the long-term story is the permanent shift to Primary360 if patients decide that all-in-one virtual care is better than the traditional system. Teladoc fully launched its Primary360 platform just a couple of months ago and will market it through health plans, insurers, employers, and directly to consumers.</p>\n<p>In November, management held an investor event and released multiyear revenue guidance of 25% to 30% growth per year through 2024. Going to market through all healthcare channels should allow the company to grow its user base -- and then sell multiple products to those users, further compounding revenue growth.</p>\n<p>The company estimates that 80% of the population could benefit from one or more of Teladoc's services, which translates to a $261 billion potential market in the United States alone, meaning the company has penetrated less than 1% given its $2 billion revenue guidance for 2021.</p>\n<h2>Depressed valuation could mean big gains ahead</h2>\n<p>Investors have steadily sold off Teladoc stock since lockdowns peaked, probably on concerns that the company was a pandemic play -- and its success a momentary flash in the pan.</p>\n<h2><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/be352f0c1d5403e02a9a8061c34db1f5\" tg-width=\"720\" tg-height=\"433\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"><span>TDOC PS Ratio data by YCharts</span></p></h2>\n<p>No doubt, the shares could still go lower in the short term as growth stocks in general have had a tough time over the past couple of months. On the other hand, virtually all of the pandemic hype seems to be priced out of the shares now with the price-to-sales (P/S) ratio down from 24 to under 8, less than its pre-pandemic valuation.</p>\n<p>If the company performs to the expectations it laid out recently, investors are looking at 25% to 30% annual returns over the next several years just from organic growth of the business. The media maven's stock is less than 5% away from the 52-week low it hit earlier this month.\nIt's pretty surprising to see Disney as a market laggard this year. It's the dominant theme park operator and film studio on the planet, making it a clear beneficiary of the reopening of the economy in 2021. Unfortunately for shareholders, things are never as easy as they seem. Disney+ subscriber growth has slowed recently, and that's problematic since the platform for premium streaming video was the major reason for Disney climbing in 2020.\nDisney near 52-week lows is still a sobering development. ASML</h2>\n<p><b>ASML Holding</b> (NASDAQ:ASML) is a Dutch semiconductor equipment maker. It's the world's largest manufacturer of lithography machines, which are used to etch circuit patterns onto silicon wafers. It's also the only manufacturer of high-end extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography machines, which are required to manufacture the world's smallest chips.</p>\n<p>The world's most advanced chip foundries -- including <b>Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing</b> (NYSE:TSM), <b>Samsung</b>, and <b>Intel</b> (NASDAQ:INTC) -- all use ASML's EUV machines, which cost about $150,000 each and require several planes to ship. ASML's dominance of this crucial chipmaking technology, which it refined over the past three decades, makes it a linchpin of the global semiconductor market.</p>\n<p>ASML's revenue rose 8% in 2019 and 18% in 2020, and it anticipates about 35% growth this year. It's selling EUV systems as rapidly as it can produce them, and a growing mix of those higher-margin devices boosted its gross margin from 44.7% in 2019 to 52.2% in the first nine months of 2021.</p>\n<p>ASML's stock price has more than doubled over the past 12 months, and it isn't cheap at 45 times forward earnings. However, this stock could still have plenty of upside potential as the chip shortage drags on -- since it will be impossible to resolve the crisis without buying significantly more machines from ASML.</p>\n<h2>2. UMC</h2>\n<p>ASML's top client is TSMC, the world's largest contract chipmaker and another linchpin of the semiconductor market. However, TSMC's smaller rival <b>United Microelectronics</b> (NYSE:UMC) is a more underrated play on the same trend.</p>\n<p>Unlike TSMC -- which manufactures the world's smallest chips for fabless chipmakers like <b>Advanced Micro Devices</b> and<b> Apple</b> -- UMC primarily manufactures older, larger, and cheaper chips for cars, Internet of Things (IoT) devices, and other gadgets.</p>\n<p>These chips aren't as powerful as TSMC's top-tier chips, but they're arguably just as essential. UMC's plants are already operating at their maximum capacities, but the company faces less pressure to aggressively upgrade its plants than TSMC, Samsung, or Intel, which are all engaged in the costly \"process race\" to manufacture smaller and more advanced chips.</p>\n<p>UMC ranks a distant third in the foundry market behind TSMC and Samsung, but it still generates impressive growth: Its revenue rose 4% in 2019 and jumped 25% in 2020, and analysts expect 18% growth this year.</p>\n<p>UMC's stock has more than doubled over the past 12 months, but it still looks reasonably valued at 22 times forward earnings. Like ASML, UMC will continue to profit from the chip shortage. Moreover, the traffic jam at TSMC and other top foundries could eventually divert more lower-end orders to UMC.</p>\n<h2>3. Micron</h2>\n<p>Lastly, I believe <b>Micron Technology </b>(NASDAQ:MU) -- <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE.U\">one</a> of the world's leading producers of DRAM and NAND memory chips -- is currently undervalued at eight times forward earnings. Micron's stock has risen nearly 30% over the past 12 months, but it's stalled out in recent months amid fears of a cyclical slowdown.</p>\n<p>Micron's revenue fell 8% in fiscal 2020 (which ended last September) as a global glut of memory chips caused market prices to plunge. But in fiscal 2021, its revenue rose 29% as those supplies and prices stabilized.</p>\n<p>Micron wasn't directly affected by the chip shortage, since it manufactures its own chips instead of outsourcing them to third-party foundries. However, it expects shortages of other PC components -- including CPUs and GPUs -- to indirectly curb the market's near-term demand for its memory chips. ASML\nASML Holding (NASDAQ:ASML) is a Dutch semiconductor equipment maker. It's the world's largest manufacturer of lithography machines, which are used to etch circuit patterns onto silicon wafers. It's also the only manufacturer of high-end extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography machines, which are required to manufacture the world's smallest chips.\nThe world's most advanced chip foundries -- including Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (NYSE:TSM), Samsung, and Intel (NASDAQ:INTC) -- all use ASML's EUV machines, which cost about $150,000 each and require several planes to ship. ASML's dominance of this crucial chipmaking technology, which it refined over the past three decades, makes it a linchpin of the global semiconductor market.\nASML's revenue rose 8% in 2019 and 18% in 2020, and it anticipates about 35% growth this year. It's selling EUV systems as rapidly as it can produce them, and a growing mix of those higher-margin devices boosted its gross margin from 44.7% in 2019 to 52.2% in the first nine months of 2021.\nASML's stock price has more than doubled over the past 12 months, and it isn't cheap at 45 times forward earnings. However, this stock could still have plenty of upside potential as the chip shortage drags on -- since it will be impossible to resolve the crisis without buying significantly more machines from ASML.\n2. UMC\nASML's top client is TSMC, the world's largest contract chipmaker and another linchpin of the semiconductor market. However, TSMC's smaller rival United Microelectronics (NYSE:UMC) is a more underrated play on the same trend.\nUnlike TSMC -- which manufactures the world's smallest chips for fabless chipmakers like Advanced Micro Devices and Apple -- UMC primarily manufactures older, larger, and cheaper chips for cars, Internet of Things (IoT) devices, and other gadgets.\nThese chips aren't as powerful as TSMC's top-tier chips, but they're arguably just as essential. UMC's plants are already operating at their maximum capacities, but the company faces less pressure to aggressively upgrade its plants than TSMC, Samsung, or Intel, which are all engaged in the costly \"process race\" to manufacture smaller and more advanced chips.\nUMC ranks a distant third in the foundry market behind TSMC and Samsung, but it still generates impressive growth: Its revenue rose 4% in 2019 and jumped 25% in 2020, and analysts expect 18% growth this year.\nUMC's stock has more than doubled over the past 12 months, but it still looks reasonably valued at 22 times forward earnings. Like ASML, UMC will continue to profit from the chip shortage. Moreover, the traffic jam at TSMC and other top foundries could eventually divert more lower-end orders to UMC.\n3. Micron\nLastly, I believe Micron Technology (NASDAQ:MU) -- one of the world's leading producers of DRAM and NAND memory chips -- is currently undervalued at eight times forward earnings. Micron's stock has risen nearly 30% over the past 12 months, but it's stalled out in recent months amid fears of a cyclical slowdown.\nMicron's revenue fell 8% in fiscal 2020 (which ended last September) as a global glut of memory chips caused market prices to plunge. But in fiscal 2021, its revenue rose 29% as those supplies and prices stabilized.\nMicron wasn't directly affected by the chip shortage, since it manufactures its own chips instead of outsourcing them to third-party foundries. However, it expects shortages of other PC components -- including CPUs and GPUs -- to indirectly curb the market's near-term demand for its memory chips. High Tide</h2>\n<p>Cannabis retailer High Tide isn't a profitable business, and likely won't be for some time. Over the trailing 12 months, it has reported 152 million Canadian dollars in revenue and losses totaling CA$32 million. The company's gross margins of 36% aren't bad, but they're likely to get a whole lot worse.</p>\n<p>That's because High Tide recently launched a \"discount club loyalty plan\" that will accelerate a strategy focused on value. While it will help attract more customers into its stores and likely boost overall market share, it will come at the cost of smaller margins. The company said in an Oct. 20 press release that as of that day, its retail pot shops \"will begin to offer steep club discounts on cannabis products.\" This move -- to try and gain market share -- looks risky.</p>\n<p>Cannabis companies have aggressively pursued growth at all costs, and the danger is that for investors, a lack of profitability and positive cash flow can translate into significant dilution.</p>\n<p>Although High Tide has more than doubled this year and soared past the S&amp;P 500's gains of 25%, there could be some tough times ahead for the company in 2022 as it deploys what looks to be a dangerous strategy focused primarily on revenue growth.</p>\n<h2>2. AMC Holdings</h2>\n<p>Entertainment company AMC is an even riskier buy, with its stock up 2,000% this year and overdue for a significant sell-off.</p>\n<p>A big risk relating to the stock right now is its wild volatility. Investing in a meme stock and what's a popular trend right now can lead investors onto a wild roller-coaster ride. All you need to do is look at the stock's 52-week range of $1.91 to $72.62 to see that while AMC has undoubtedly made some people rich, others are likely regretting their decision to jump aboard the hype. That kind of broad price range might make sense for a hot new tech stock that just went public, but it's not the price movement you would expect to see for a struggling theatre operator.</p>\n<p>And the more concerning issue is that the business itself isn't in terribly great shape. Sure, AMC is sitting on $1.8 billion in liquidity, but the company is burning through money and has corporate borrowings totaling $5.5 billion. And although for the period ending Sept. 30 there was improvement, with AMC's revenue of $763.2 million coming in at more than six times the $119.5 million it reported a year ago, that still wasn't enough to pull it out of the red. With a net loss of $224.2 million, the company still has a long way to go to break even. Meanwhile, interest expenses of $88.7 million on its corporate borrowings represented 11.6% of revenue this past quarter. That's a dangerously high rate -- especially in a low-interest rate environment.</p>\n<p>Until AMC starts putting significant cash toward paying down its debt, I'd stay far away from this stock. Even before the pandemic, the company wasn't consistently posting a profit. With interest rates potentially on the rise in 2022, the equity markets may soon be less attractive options than they are right now for investors.\nAs bond yields rise, investors will be able to earn higher returns without having to invest in a risky and volatile stock market that's trading at all-time highs and due for a correction. Plus, companies carrying lots of debt will likely incur greater interest expenses, worsening their bottom lines in the process.\nTwo stocks that I would steer clear of heading into next year include High Tide (NASDAQ:HITI) and AMC Holdings (NYSE:AMC). This year, they've both outperformed the S&P 500 by wide margins, but that pattern isn't likely to continue in 2022.\nImage source: Getty Images.\n1. High Tide\nCannabis retailer High Tide isn't a profitable business, and likely won't be for some time. Over the trailing 12 months, it has reported 152 million Canadian dollars in revenue and losses totaling CA$32 million. The company's gross margins of 36% aren't bad, but they're likely to get a whole lot worse.\nThat's because High Tide recently launched a \"discount club loyalty plan\" that will accelerate a strategy focused on value. While it will help attract more customers into its stores and likely boost overall market share, it will come at the cost of smaller margins. The company said in an Oct. 20 press release that as of that day, its retail pot shops \"will begin to offer steep club discounts on cannabis products.\" This move -- to try and gain market share -- looks risky.\nCannabis companies have aggressively pursued growth at all costs, and the danger is that for investors, a lack of profitability and positive cash flow can translate into significant dilution.\nAlthough High Tide has more than doubled this year and soared past the S&P 500's gains of 25%, there could be some tough times ahead for the company in 2022 as it deploys what looks to be a dangerous strategy focused primarily on revenue growth.\n2. AMC Holdings\nEntertainment company AMC is an even riskier buy, with its stock up 2,000% this year and overdue for a significant sell-off.\nA big risk relating to the stock right now is its wild volatility. Investing in a meme stock and what's a popular trend right now can lead investors onto a wild roller-coaster ride. All you need to do is look at the stock's 52-week range of $1.91 to $72.62 to see that while AMC has undoubtedly made some people rich, others are likely regretting their decision to jump aboard the hype. That kind of broad price range might make sense for a hot new tech stock that just went public, but it's not the price movement you would expect to see for a struggling theatre operator.\nAnd the more concerning issue is that the business itself isn't in terribly great shape. Sure, AMC is sitting on $1.8 billion in liquidity, but the company is burning through money and has corporate borrowings totaling $5.5 billion. And although for the period ending Sept. 30 there was improvement, with AMC's revenue of $763.2 million coming in at more than six times the $119.5 million it reported a year ago, that still wasn't enough to pull it out of the red. With a net loss of $224.2 million, the company still has a long way to go to break even. Meanwhile, interest expenses of $88.7 million on its corporate borrowings represented 11.6% of revenue this past quarter. That's a dangerously high rate -- especially in a low-interest rate environment.\nUntil AMC starts putting significant cash toward paying down its debt, I'd stay far away from this stock. Even before the pandemic, the company wasn't consistently posting a profit.
