Bulls VS. Bears: Is Rivian Stock A Buy After Steep Losses?

$Rivian Automotive, Inc.(RIVN)$ Rivian Automotive rolled out the first all-electric pickup truck, the R1T, much-anticipated IPO priced strong，and is now the third largest car company by market cap, behind Tesla$Tesla Motors(TSLA)$ and Toyota$Toyota(TM)$ .

Is Rivian stock a good buy?

Rivian had raised about $10.5 billion in venture capital funding as of mid-2021, including from Amazon$Amazon.com(AMZN)$ and Ford$Ford(F)$ , to help fight Tesla and General Motors$General Motors(GM)$ . Rivian picked a good time to go public, as it is among the few startup EV makers actually producing and delivering vehicles.

The Rivian IPO is getting lots of attention. But investors shouldn't try to be the first to buy RIVN stock off the lot, but look to see if stock can form an IPO base. Rivian reported solid but minimal third-quarter revenue, losses were wider than expected, the stock tumbled.

Investors and analysts are sharply divided on Rivian's stock.

The bulls say, Rivian is "the one" that can challenge Tesla, the R1T/R1S is the most capable and desirable product in the market for about $80,000. EDV has the potential to dominate the fast growing final mile EV fleet.

The bears think, Rivian has only begun deliveries of its all-electric trucks. As of Dec. 15, Rivian produced 652 R1Ts and delivered 386. It also produced and delivered its first two R1S, but volume production is slated for the spring.

Plus, Rivian like Lucid$Lucid Group Inc(LCID)$ and Nio$NIO Inc.(NIO)$ and Fisker$Fisker Inc.(FSR)$ , and every other EV company, will push their name and show a lot of pretty drawings, but ultimately ately will never deliver more than a handful of "production" vehicles, ridiculously ovepriced and ultimately massive failures, as all EV are inherently impractical, unsustainable, feel good pieces of junk.

Multiple analysts see the stock as a “compelling investment opportunity” with the companies ties to Amazon and its high quality EV model performance. The debate on valuation and future potential between the bulls and the bears will continue to be the main talking point on Rivian Stock as we move into 2022.
