Tesla (TSLA) vehicles were cleared by the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration after the regulator said Monday it closed a preliminary probe into crashes involving the "Actually Smart Summon" feature, citing low incident frequency and severity.
The feature allows users to remotely move vehicles within a certain distance in parking lots and private property using a smartphone app.
The agency said nearly all reported crashes involved minor property damage, with no injuries, fatalities, or major damage, and only a fraction of 1% of millions of sessions resulted in incidents.
Most events occurred early in a Summon session due to limited situational awareness in the app's camera view, with impacts typically involving gates, nearby vehicles, or parking bollards, the regulator said.
Tesla deployed multiple over-the-air updates to improve camera detection, object recognition, and vehicle response, NHTSA said.
Tesla didn't immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
